Over 200 producers and colleagues, one day at Rheged, and plenty of good food.

We recently hosted our 2026 Producer Summit, a day of conversations and ideas with the people who make our shelves, counters and menus what they are.

Radio presenter Caz Graham kept things moving as our host, and Dr Rupy Aujla of The Doctor’s Kitchen gave us plenty to think about as our keynote speaker. His talk centered on his mission to reverse the tidal wave of preventable lifestyle disease through education in nutritional medicine.

In the morning, colleagues shared what’s working, what’s hard and what’s next. In the afternoon, producers joined ‘drop in’ sessions on everything from food safety updates and producer talks, to butchery and a deep dive into marketing and how to ‘tell your story’.

Then came the Producer Awards. Nominated by colleagues across our family of businesses, the winners are the people behind the food we’re proud to put on our shelves. Congratulations to everyone shortlisted, and to all our winners. 🏆

Thank you to our speakers, panelists, colleagues and production team for pulling it all together. And to every producer who made the trip: you are the reason we do this, thank you!

Did you know that the lamb in our butchery counter comes directly from our farm here at Tebay?

Born in the fields surrounding us and raised on pasture and herbal leys, these lambs spend their lives making the most of a natural forage-based diet. 🍃

Championing seasonality is something we're especially proud of, and it's a special feeling to be able to share lamb we've reared ourselves on our own family farm, less than 2 miles away 💚

Pop by the butchery counter to find out more, or try our Lamb Kofta Flatbread in our Kitchens for a taste of the season...

Breakfast might divide opinion on the best way to cook an egg, but not on the importance of a good one.

Free range, fresh and sourced close to home, our eggs come from Myers Farm at Tebay, Overton at Gloucester, and Corrie Mains at Cairn Lodge Services.

They've been laid by hens enjoying a considerably calmer morning routine than the rest of us. 🥚

We’ve always believed wool is worth more; in every sense. So we’re delighted to see British wool prices reaching their highest level in a decade; a welcome sign that this remarkable natural fibre is finally being valued more highly.

Our founder John Dunning often shares an old saying that captures the resourcefulness of the hill farmer: “It’s a bare hillside that he’ll cross over on which he won’t find something he’ll make use of.”

That same spirit inspired us to find a purposeful use for the wool from our own farm. What began with a tonne of virtually worthless fleece became a journey through British craft and manufacturing.

The wool is scoured in Bradford, transforming the raw fleece into soft, fluffy fibre. It then travels to Lightowlers at Brigg House Mills in Huddersfield, where it is spun into yarn and dyed in colours inspired by the Cumbrian fells on which our sheep graze. Finally, it travels to Scotland, where Caledonian sock makers turn it into beautifully crafted Westmorland socks.
Why go to so much trouble for a pair of socks? Because wool matters. Craft matters. And valuing everything our farm produces matters too.

Natural. Renewable. British. Made to last.
From our flock to your feet.

An increased demand in wool has meant prices have increased more than 70% in the last year.

Every good breakfast starts with a dilemma.

Coffee or pastry first?

Across our sites, we've made sure there's no wrong answer. Thoughtfully roasted coffee from producers we admire - Glen Lyon Coffee at Cairn Lodge, Bean & Dunne Coffee at Tebay, and Ethical Addictions Coffee Roasters at Gloucester Services.

For pastries, there's The Bertinet Bakery much-loved babka at Gloucester Services, and beautifully baked pastries from Freedom Bakery at Cairn Lodge.

Whether you're grabbing a flat white and a pastry to go, or taking a little time to unwind, breakfast is in good hands. ☕🥐

What do our food choices mean for British farming? 🌾🥛

Every bottle of milk, loaf of bread and piece of cheese carries a story about how it was produced and who produced it.

In our Summer Newspaper, Jess Vaughan of Jess's Ladies Organic Milk and Bryce Cunningham of Mossgiel organic dairy share the realities of farming today - from rising costs and extreme weather to the importance of supporting independent British producers.

Their stories are a reminder that the choices we make as shoppers can help shape the future of British farming.

Behind every one of our sites is a community we're proud to be part of 💚

This Summer, we've been supporting young entrepreneurs, helping students bring a new gelato flavour to market, lacing up our walking boots to raise vital funds for mental health, and investing in local projects through our new Cairn Lodge Community Fund.

Discover the stories behind it all in our Summer Newspaper, pages 30-31:

Sausages are the cornerstone of a good breakfast.

Ours have long been made by our own butchers, to a unique recipe, but recently they've been working on something new.

After months of careful development, they've created a truly clean sausage recipe: no preservatives, no shortcuts, just meat and seasoning as it should be.

For now, these new sausages are being served exclusively at Gloucester Services Kitchens. Our ambition is to get them onto Farmshop shelves too, though their one-day shelf life is the honest price of doing things properly.
