New Places For New People Venue Run by the Methodist Church.

♥️People Gather at The Well♥️
Over forty people gathered at THE WELL, Causeway Lane, Matlock for the official opening and blessing of the building.🌅
👏The welcome was certainly warm with plenty of chatter, laughter, song and a prayer with coffee tea and warm croissants.
👏People were welcomed by Reverend Ann Anderson and a red ribbon was cut by Grace Leary who had been a long standing member of the fellowship of the now closed Methodist United Reform Church on Bank Road, Matlock.
Revd Ann lead a blessing ceremony with a Bible reading from 1 Peter 2:4-6 ‘The living stone and a chosen people’.
🎶This was followed by everyone joining in singing ‘See what a morning, gloriously bright’ led by Reverend Tony Wells.
Plans for THE WELL are being put in place for regular events:
👍Brick Church - all age exploration of faith through LEGO
👍Breakfast Church - relaxed space to share breakfast & explore faith
👍Soul Cafe - (4th Sunday) look at Faith through conversation music poetry and discussion
👍LGBTQ + Inclusive Space - a safe space to connect & share experiences I
👍Neurodiversity Group.
👍Youth Drop In - secondary age.
👍Parent Support/Activity Group.

All Well at The Well
Opening Update
All is well for the opening at 10am on Wednesday 4th November. The croissants will be warm, the tea and coffee will be warm in the new kitchen and Reverend Ann with new community worker Rosie will ensure a warm welcome.
There will be quiet conversation, spiritual support where needed, all done with a smile and of course not forgetting the children who can explore the toys and dolls house.

🔴Well!! The Well is Ready for Opening🔴
Update
⏰The Well officially opens this coming Wednesday (4th Nov) at 10 am - please try and pop in for a really warm welcome and refreshments including locally produced croissants.
😀@ Methodist Circuit Property Officer Phil Stainer is excited about a “new chapter on the horizon” and tells of the hustle and bustle of this week getting final things in place:
•Gary Jones from Crown Square delivered chairs from Belper Central Methodist Church.
•Plumber was working on the kitchen fittings.
•Lee the electrician returning on Tuesday 3rd November 2026.
•Foyer screening goes in on Monday 2nd November 2026.
•Working with the landlord and their advisors to resolving issues with ventilation outlets.
•Received consent from the local authority to have outside dining.
•Planters looking lovely with a mixture of plants.
•Rosie Goddon-Smith, the recently in post community worker, will be on hand to chat about her exciting role in and around Matlock.

👏Thanks to so many people who have been working on the site, many behind the scenes, which is looking less like a construction site.👏

🎉 THE WELL, CAUSEWAY LANE, MATLOCK – UPDATE! 🎉
We’re nearly there, friends! The Well is just about ready for our official opening on Wednesday, 4th November at 10:00 AM, and we couldn't be more excited to share this space with you all.
It’s been another wonderfully busy week getting everything ready. A huge thank you to Circuit Property Officer Phil and Reverend Ann for setting up our cozy lounge (complete with a special dolls' house for the little ones!), alongside Lewis and DJ for helping get the carpets and furniture in place.
We’d also like to extend our sincere thanks to:
🔹 Lee Jackson for getting the heating and air conditioning up and running to keep everyone warm and comfortable.
🔹 Lee Bannister for sorting out all the electrical connections.
🔹 Lewis for fitting the new door locks.

THE WELL, CAUSEWAY LANE, MATLOCK.

As the formal opening on 4th November draws closer the trades people are working like beavers.
As shown in the pictures, the ovens are now installed and electrician Lee Bannister has connected up the distribution board, So, we soon can boil a kettle for tea AND bake a cake and have no fears your reporter will be first in the queue especially if it’s fruit cake whilst sitting in the warm welcoming space that is THE WELL.
The final picture shows part of the domestic hot water system so having had you tea-n-cake you will be able to wash your hands and rejoin the friendly fellowship.

Update
The kitchen fitters and electrician guys are hard at work and The Well is starting to really take shape.
You can see clearly now the kitchen and serving area and what will be the ‘open space’ infront of the kitchen.
It’s getting exciting as the Methodist Church opens The Well in Matlock on November 4th as a warm, safe space, centred around shared life experiences, recovery, well-being, or creative arts rather than traditional Sunday services.
By next weeks blog we will have more detailed information about what going to be happening at The Well - watch this space!

Update
Fitting out work is continuing at a fast rate as kitchen, toilet and general spaces are being made fit for purpose. Also catering jobs are being advertised to enable The Well to become a warm and welcoming space for people not connected to religious traditions or existing faith communities.

Update
Getting everything ready for you at The Well is taking a little more time than originally expected.
However the guys are very busy fitting out and as the pictures show the toilet facilities are coming on a treat.
The Well will be a safe, warm welcoming space in Causeway Lane offering effective means of connecting new people, new people groups, and new residents to Christian exploration and community.
It’s a Methodist Church lead initiative and helps the whole Church reflect on and examine its calling.
So after the opening now on the 4th November why not pop in, have a drink and be a part of something new.

✨Opening Update✨

A quick update from The Well: our opening date will be moving from tomorrow (7th October) to the 4th November. The refurbishment team is still hard at work transforming the space, and we want to ensure it is ready, welcoming and safe before we open the doors.

Thank you so much for your patience and support. We can’t wait to welcome you in once the space is finished!
