๐Ÿš— Don't forget Carboot is this Sunday! ๐Ÿš—

We've had quite a few more sellers reserve a pitch this time, so if you're thinking about coming down with a table it'd be a good idea to let us know before hand!

๐Ÿ“ฃ Time for a long-overdue weekly update! ๐Ÿ“ฃ

Lets talk about some of the things that have already changed over the last few weeks;

๐Ÿฒ We launched our new menu - the new Marmite dishes have been selling really well and you guys have had some great feedback on the warm baguettes, so I'm very pleased with how those are going. The condiment carriers have had a little upgrade - we started off with sachets of sauce, then we upgraded to the red and brown sauce bottles for ketchup and brown sauce (which actually feels like a step back with all the issues they've caused) so from today onwards there are proper HP and Heinz Ketchup bottles in the carriers. I'll make use of the larger bottles in normal cooking or at my Bap Station for carboots - we won't be refilling the bottles in the carriers with the cheaper alternatives, I'd rather pay a little more for a better quality product.

๐ŸŽฐ Pull the Ball on Friday nights has been going well and the jackpot is slowly climbing! If you fancy your chances at the jackpot or free shots and pints, grab your ticket when you're here on Friday evenings!

โšฝ๏ธ The World Cup posters went up around the bar - there are multiple chances to win cash prizes with our sweepstake, a brewery-sponsored selfie challenge and some free pint games during match times.

โœ‰๏ธ You may have noticed at the bottom of the car park a new InPost Collection/Drop-Off point. This was installed at the behest of the brewery to allow a more accessible location for your parcel activities. We know there's a Post Office 3 doors down from us, but the brewery didn't, and I had no idea they were installing it until after they'd sent a contractor to pour the foundation for it. It isn't live on InPost's website yet.

๐Ÿ’ฆ The gent's urinals now flush!?! We've been told by several plumbers that we've called out to look at what's going on that it's just a build-up of limescale after the water not being turned on for so long, and then nothing happening when the water is on. Thus, no flushing. So our Trev has had a quick look and replaced the batteries in the flushing mechanism.. they now flush properly. As I'm writing this he's gone to grab some kit so we can sort out the draining issue then we're back in the gent's for the day until all the issues are sorted. Soda bombs are my favourite!

๐Ÿงน Internally we've been having a good clear-out. When we moved in there were so many boxes of tatt and useless rubbish in the building, especially in the cellar that is no good to anyone. Spending some time re-organising hasn't really been high on my list of priorities, but I'm glad we're slowly getting through it as this provides us with almost a whole new room for.. other things..

Now what about things that are coming up?

๐ŸŽฑ We're still waiting for the new pool table for the function room, which is now looking like first week of July for it's arrival.

๐Ÿ›’ I'm creating a food-box programme for local residents; we'd deliver on a Tuesday if you'd like a delivery but if you're happy to collect then you get the same sized box twice a week (Tuesday and Friday). The aim is to provide people with either a fresh produce supplement for larger families, or a good sized box of fresh and dry foods for people living on their own or as a couple. Sometimes it's difficult (or very expensive) buying fresh food in smaller quantities, especially meats that you might not get through before it starts to turn. We'll be looking at obtaining some funding from the council to support this venture initially, and then once we get it going we'll be able to use the profits to benefit local community groups and to support the amazing volunteering efforts around our town. More on this at a later date.

๐Ÿงง Sticking with the food theme; we trialled our Stir-Fry Sunday menu at the weekend, and considering we didn't advertise it at all prior to 2pm it went incredibly well! The menu has now had some tweaks and I've added some amazing Korean options, too. This will launch properly this coming Sunday. Why Chinese food? It's the best cuisine to help me use up all of our ingredients so I'm not throwing as much away at the end of the week. And.. Chinese food is amazing!

Remember: I don't do portion control, so you're getting far more food per dish than at a normal takeaway! This will also be available on Just-Eat on Sundays. The prices on Just-Eat are a little more expensive than they are if you were to order at the bar to takeaway as Just-Eat takes a 30% cut of the order value.

This will sadly be the case until we can afford our own driver, then the costs can go back down, but that won't happen until the volume of deliveries increases massively throughout the week.

I think that's enough for now.
Thanks for reading my essay!

The new menu has gone double-sided!

All of our new goodies are launching tomorrow (Monday 25th May) with 20% off the entire menu for a one-day-only feedback gathering event. Tell us what you like, tell us what you don't like, and no - I won't be making the portion sizes smaller.. we're not a Wetherspoons.

A lucky few have already tried the new Marmite variants and what started as a simple "I'll add a Marmite toastie" kinda snowballed and I went a bit crazy. It all tastes soo good though!! (if you don't like Marmite, that's ok)

Tomorrow is the 4th Sunday of the month - that means Jam Session time!

Tomorrow the kitchen will be open until 8pm but we'll have the new Sunday menu available to try. We can't wait!

Next weekend adds an extra Sunday to the month, so we'll have a Jam Session next week, too!

๐Ÿ“ฃ Spring Bank Holiday Monday (25th May) ๐Ÿ“ฃ

We'll be open 2pm to 9pm as a special one-off, with discounted new food menu!

For the last few Bank Holiday Monday's we've remained closed after the BHM's last year were a waste of time, electricity and wages. We kept being asked to be open for BHM's and then we'd take ~ยฃ60 the whole day, which doesn't come close to breaking even, so we remained closed to work on the usual Monday projects that we can't do while the pub is open.

This coming BHM we'll be open and launching the new Spring/Summer menu at the same time. All food on the menu will be available at 20% off to help encourage trialling the food and providing feedback. It's also set to be 32C outside so we'll keep the AC running - I'll be in the kitchen on my own so I'm not subjecting the other kitchen dwellers to the heat. Our kitchen runs around 10C hotter in there than it is outside.. so this should be fun! ๐Ÿฅต

If it's a resounding success then we'll continue to open BHM's - if it turns out the same as all the previous times we've opened, we'll continue to remain closed on all Monday's in the future.

Time for a slightly delayed Weekly Update!

Firstly: Yes, I've bought more beer on an emergency courier delivery. Another ~12 barrels will arrive tomorrow morning which *should* keep us going until our normal Friday delivery. It's been such a busy weekend and I can't thank you guys enough for continuing to support us, you fabulous rockstars!

The Function Room is coming along nicely - I've started ordering the room's new tech for screens, TVs, separate jukebox equipment, etc. That will be going up as-and-when. I've also ordered another pool table today which should be here at some point next week. The brewery have ordered us an all-singing-all-dancing brand new dart board that should turn up soon, too.

Speaking of the brewery; they're looking into what happened with the quote I posted last week. They've agreed there's some serious miscommunication (I've suggested the miscommunication is an erroneous decimal point in the wrong place) so that's currently being looked into. Updates on the decking when I have more info.

The kitchen times are changing this week - on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays the kitchen will open an hour after the pub opens, and close at 10pm instead of 8pm. Times will be adjusted on delivery platforms to match.

Sticking with the kitchen, the menu changes at the end of this week to the new Spring/Summer menu and will remain until early September. Most of the pub classic dishes will vanish until the Autumn, but a whole host of new things are arriving! On Wednesday this week, the resident kitchen dweller and I will be combing through every ingredient, every tub, drawer and cupboard looking for anything that that didn't make the cut. That means that Thursday and Friday (and maybe Saturday if they haven't already gone) will have an additional Special's menu with vastly reduced prices so we can clear some space.

This means there are no other specials available this week (Pizza Tuesday, Curry Thursday, Saturday Sharers) as there's no sense in me buying fresh ingredients for a 1 day special when we're trying to use up what we've already got.

I think that's all I've got for this week!

Ok so... ๐Ÿ˜ค

We've inherited the decking area which everyone wants to sit on in the sun, which can't happen until the floor is replaced as there are holes everywhere. So we put in for some quotes through the brewery's contractors a few weeks ago so we could make a start on getting our summer-bodies ready for "suns out guns out" season.

We got the quote back this morning and quite frankly I'd rather do it ourselves - the contractors didn't quote for what I asked. We can get the decking wood far cheaper than what we've been quoted and the surround doesn't really need changing, so I'm thinking of putting together a little fundraiser so we can get the wood and we'll spend a few days ripping the pallets up and replacing them with proper decking boards. As it was built without permission the brewery isn't required to cover any of it's upkeep.

What do you guys think?

Car Boot is in full swing - we've seen some great bargains this week!
