When travelling back and forth, debating whether to completely change our lives and take the leap into creating something special at The Honey Pot Inn, Tom would always pass this beautifully kept cricket ground.
After 15 years away from playing sport, he finally decided to scratch that itch and head along to a practice session. Little did he know he'd find such a fantastic group of lads and lasses who really epitomise everything that's special about our local community.
The hard work, dedication and sheer determination that goes into keeping a local club going is something to be admired. But what really stands out is the people.
We're incredibly thankful for how they've welcomed Tom, looked after him and made him feel part of the team, even after he's been smashed around the pitch for a fair few runs!
It's reminded us that sport, much like a good village pub, is about so much more than what happens on the pitch or within four walls. It's about friendship, belonging, community and having somewhere you feel part of something special.
A massive well done to the whole team and everyone working tirelessly behind the scenes, and an extra congratulations to the two award winners below. Thoroughly deserved!
If anyone is thinking about getting back into cricket, giving it a go for the first time or even looking for a new club, we couldn't recommend them enough.
