Watergate's Bar is a historic pub in Chester, and is said to be situated in the oldest medieval crypt in England, dating back to the 12th-century. Our menu features classic British pub food, such as hand-battered fish and chips, pie and mash, burgers and many more dishes to please every taste. Grab a drink and watch live sports on our screens, or just relax and connect to our free Wi-Fi. We welcome dogs and have disabled facilities, ensuring every customer is welcome. It’s definitely looking more building site than pub at the moment but the team are hard at work getting everything ready for the new-look Watergates Bar.

Sitting on Chester’s historic Watergate Street, our pub is home to an incredible medieval crypt dating back as far as 1180, complete with stone-vaulted ceilings and striking Gothic arches.
As we give Watergates Bar its new look, celebrating and showcasing that amazing heritage will remain right at the heart of the pub.

We’re getting ready to press pause for a few weeks... but not before one final weekend! 🍻
Join us at The Watergates before we temporarily close on Sunday (6 September) and get ready for an exciting transformation.
