The Thomas Tallis is an ale house selling up to 30 beers in cask, key keg, bottle and can with wines, ciders and prosecco also available.

The Thomas Tallis Alehouse serves a wide range of beers from the cask, from key keg and in bottles and cans. We offer over 30 beers at any one time. The beer selection will constantly change as we seek new and exciting brews from around the world so don't get too attached to a particular beer! Alongside the beers we have a selection of great wines including from the fabulous Barnsole Vineyard at Staple, near Ash. We also stock prosecco. Ciders also feature and will be showcasing the excellent cider makers of Kent and further afield. As with the beers the cider selection will change so you can sample the wide range that exists. We do not serve meals but we do sell Kent crisps and peanuts and will add Ashmore cheese and pork pies to the food offer in the near future. You will be assured a warm welcome in The Thomas Tallis but we ask that you do not use your phone to make or receive phone calls. We have no objection to texting, searching the internet or taking photos but a noisy phone will cost you a £1 fine which will be donated to the Pilgrims Hospice. We look forward to your visit and hope you enjoy your experience.

Why should Thursday get all the glory with “Thirsty Thursday” anyway?

If you’ve been eyeing up a few different b**rs on the board and can’t quite commit to a full pint, our flights of thirds are the answer. Pick a few, line them up and conduct some very important taste testing of your own.

You might find a new favourite. You might confirm that your usual is your usual for a reason. Or you might just enjoy three different b**rs instead of one.

All perfectly valid outcomes, if you ask us.

🚨THE WAIT IS OVER🚨

After all that very important “research”, GADDS’ Green Hop Ale is NOW POURING at the Tallis 🌿🍺

Made with freshly picked Kentish hops, green hop b**r is about as seasonal as it gets – there’s only a short window each year to enjoy it at its freshest, so if you’ve been waiting for it, now’s your chance.

Dave’s already done the quality control. It passed.

Not a Green Hop fan? No problem. As you can see, the rest of the board isn’t looking too shabby either. We’ve got plenty of cask and keg to work your way through – and that’s before you get started on the c***r, w**e, cans and gin.

It is Friday after all. Seems rude not to. Open now🍻

Our September charity quiz is this Wednesday 23rd September, and this month we’ll be raising money for Cancer Research UK 💜

As always, every penny of your entry money goes to the charity, so round up your cleverest mates (or the ones who are particularly good at confidently guessing), grab a drink and settle in for an evening of questionable general knowledge and friendly competition.

Important research is underway… 🍺

Dave has been out investigating this year’s Gadds’ Green Hop Ale, purely for professional purposes, obviously.

Brewed with freshly picked Kentish hops, green hop b**r is about as seasonal as b**r gets – there’s only a small window each year to brew it, drink it and enjoy it at its freshest.

Judging by the amount of “research” taking place straight from the cask, we’d say the 2026 batch is looking rather promising.

Keep an eye on the b**r board – Green Hop season is upon us. 🌿🍺

If you’re looking for a proper pub this weekend, you know where we are🍺

Good cask ale, proper c***r, plenty of interesting b**rs on the board, pork pies, scotch eggs, cheese and a seat somewhere inside a rather old building in Canterbury.

No need for an occasion. Bring a mate, pick something you haven’t tried before, find a table and stay for as long as you fancy.

And with the weather starting to turn and the evenings getting that little bit cooler, the snug is beginning to look like a very good place to be again.

The log burner’s still enjoying its summer holiday for now, but we suspect it’ll be back at work before too long.

A very special Saturday at the Tallis 🤍

Today we had the absolute pleasure of celebrating Scarlett & Rico’s wedding with them, as they began married life surrounded by their family and friends.

There were plenty of drinks raised, lots of laughter and a whole lot of love packed into our little alehouse – and we couldn’t have asked for a lovelier reason to close the doors for a few hours.

To Scarlett & Rico, thank you for choosing the Tallis to be a small part of such a huge day. We hope today was the perfect start to the ride of your lives together.

The last bank holiday weekend of summer is here☀️🍺

Somehow we’ve blinked and found ourselves at the end of August.

The holidays have been had, the evenings are slowly getting shorter, and this weekend feels like our last chance to collectively pretend that autumn isn’t waiting just around the corner.

So make the most of it.

Find some friends. Wander into town. Sit outside while the weather still allows it. Order the b**r you’ve been meaning to try. Get a pork pie for the table. Stay for another when you were definitely only popping in for one.

Because before we know it, the coats will be coming back out, the darker b**rs will start looking suspiciously appealing, and Dave will be deciding whether it’s actually cold enough to light the fire yet.

But we’re not there just yet.

We’ve still got one last summer bank holiday weekend to enjoy, and we can think of worse places to spend a little bit of it.
