Hot of the Press!
A special Saturday one-off as part of this year’s ‘North Street Sounds” extravaganza, featuring multiple venues and happenings along the road. At El Rinc, we’re delighted to welcome back ‘el grupo de casa’ after far-too-long an absence. And for this NSS ‘especial’, the classic Invisible Apples line-up of mighty Jon Baggott (Portishead, Massive Attack, Robert Plant, etc) on piano and Pete Judge (Get The Blessing etc) on flugelhorn will be joined by brilliant drummer Matt Stockham Brown (who, as well as being a Montreux Jazz Festival award-winner, plays with his own project 6161, and Rincon regulars Uphill Game, amongst many others). They’ll be playing plenty of Jon’s gorgeously melodic and meditative originals, plus some standards and upbeat footstompers. A cracker.

We’re a tight-knit crew at El Rincon — a lovely mix of brilliant part-time minds (academics, artists, musicians, neighbours… you get the vibe) who’ve genuinely made this place their second home.
These days, we’re lucky to have low staff turnover — and even see former team members return when they miss us. So, while we’re not actively recruiting right now, we’re always happy to hear from someone genuinely keen to be part of what we do.
Top tip: If you’re just looking for a cheeky three-month gig before heading back to halls — probably not for us.
But if you’re hard-working, unfazed by lively music nights, football and rugby crowds and think you’d fit in with our eclectic little bunch — I’d love to hear from you.

Somos un grupo muy unido en El Rincón — una mezcla encantadora de mentes brillantes a tiempo parcial (académicos, artistas, músicos, vecinos… ya te haces una idea) que realmente han hecho de este lugar su segundo hogar.

Hoy en día, tenemos la suerte de contar con una baja rotación de personal — e incluso vemos a antiguos miembros del equipo regresar cuando nos echan de menos. Así que, aunque no estamos reclutando activamente en este momento, siempre nos alegra saber de alguien que realmente quiera formar parte de lo que hacemos.

💡 Consejo: Si solo buscas un trabajito de tres meses antes de volver a la uni… probablemente este no sea tu sitio.

Pero si eres trabajador/a, no te intimidan las noches con música en vivo, los partidos de fútbol y rugby, y crees que encajarías con nuestro pequeño y ecléctico grupo — me encantaría saber de ti.

Hola Amigos
Here are a list or our current Spanish classes at El Rincon

Total (or Nearly Total) Beginners Spanish 6pm
This class is perfect if you’re brand new to Spanish or returning with a little knowledge. We go back to basics, before moving on to essential everyday phrases. You’ll also be introduced to basic Spanish grammar and learn practical skills such as ordering a beer with confidence.

Thea, our new Spanish teacher, is your tutor for these classes, creating a supportive and relaxed environment to help you enjoy your first steps in Spanish.

Beginner Plus 6pm
The Beginner Plus class is ideal if you’ve studied a little Spanish before, used language apps, or completed a beginner course in the past. It’s perfect for refreshing your knowledge and gently extending your skills. If you’re looking for more of a challenge, you may wish to consider our Improver class instead.

Jen is our teacher, guiding the group with a warm, encouraging approach that helps you gain confidence and enjoy using Spanish.

Improvers Spanish 7.15pm
Enjoy the pleasure of learning Spanish in a small, friendly group that creates a relaxed and sociable atmosphere. This Improver-level class is ideal if you’ve studied Spanish before and can already hold basic conversations, with some understanding of simple grammar.

The focus is on building confidence through plenty of speaking practice, supported by reading activities and gentle grammar reinforcement, with lots of encouragement to join in and express yourself.

The class is led by Jen, who creates an engaging and supportive environment to help you develop your Spanish naturally.

Conversational Spanish 7.15pm
Led by Lys, a native speaker from Galicia. Designed for people who love to chat in Spanish, this class focuses on building confidence, fluency, and natural expression through relaxed, engaging conversation. You’ll explore real-life topics, pick up authentic vocabulary, and enjoy a friendly space to practice Spanish while connecting with Galician culture and perspectives.

Our class dates for this mini-term are 9th, 23rd Feb and 2nd March. Classes last for one hour, all material is provided, just bring yourself, pen and paper and arrive 5 minutes before class begins.
