Aida me lanzó la pregunta: ¿somos hoy más exigentes cuando salimos a comer?
Le dije que sí, sin dudarlo. Más que hace diez años. Y que me parece bien, porque te obliga a ser mejor. Los sitios que vivían del turista de paso lo han acabado pagando en las reseñas.
Luego ella tiró del hilo hacia las redes, y ahí nos encontramos las dos en lo mismo.
Que ahora todo el mundo es crítico gastronómico. Que hemos montado una sociedad de la foto y el vídeo y se nos ha ido el momento. Que da rabia ver parejas comiendo con el móvil delante: están ahí, pero no están.
Exigir está bien. Exigir sin saber qué tienes en el plato es otra cosa.

Then she pulled the thread towards social media, and that's where the two of us landed on the same thing.
That everyone's a food critic now. That we've built a society of photos and videos and lost the moment somewhere in it. That it's hard to watch couples eat with a phone between them — they're there, but they're not.
Being demanding is good. Being demanding without knowing what's on your plate is something else.
