The darkest coffee on the menu isnā€™t necessarily the strongest.

Hereā€™s what most people get backwards: dark roast doesnā€™t mean more caffeine. Roasting doesnā€™t add caffeine, and the difference between light and dark roast is much smaller than most people assume.

What actually affects your caffeine intake?

How much coffee you use.
How fine you grind it.
How you brew it.
And how long it extracts.

Roast level is only one piece of the picture.

So what does roast level change?
Flavour.

Light roasts spend less time in the heat, preserving more of the beanā€™s natural character - brighter acidity, sweetness, fruit and floral notes. Dark roasts go further, developing deeper, smokier and more bitter flavors.

That bold, intense taste?

Thatā€™s roast. Not caffeine!
