WE’RE STILL HERE - and we’d love to see you 😊

It’s been a strange couple of weeks in the Okanagan.

The smoke has settled in, tourism has slowed to a crawl, and our restaurant, like so many others in our community, has been feeling it.

We’ve had to adjust our outdoor spaces temporarily, and with ash falling on our upstairs patio all week, it’s going to take a little time to get it back to the place you’ve been waiting all year to sit. Our semi-enclosed patio will remain closed this weekend, but we’re hoping to have it back very soon 🤞

Inside Elma, though, we’re ready for you.

We have fewer tables without the patios, so reservations are more important than ever right now. We’ve had many guests hoping to dine at the same time, and we would hate to not be able to accommodate everyone simply because we don’t have enough tables at that moment.

So if you’ve been thinking about coming for dinner, please make a reservation. Bring your friends. Pick a bottle from our Summerland Strong list. Settle in and let us take care of you for a couple of hours.

We miss having a full dining room. We miss the energy of a busy service. And our team would really love to see you.

Most importantly, we’re still here, we’re still cooking, and we’re genuinely excited to welcome our community through the doors.

It’s been a hard stretch for the Okanagan, and there’s still a long way to go. But we’re going to keep doing what we do best and make Elma a place where you can come together, eat well and enjoy yourself.

Come see us. We’d love to have you. ❤️

Reservations recommended.

INTRODUCING SUMMERLAND STRONG

Summerland is hurting, and the businesses that rely on this season are feeling it in a very real way. For many, the wildfire has taken away a significant part of the summer they depend on to carry them through the year. Some are facing the possibility of losing the season altogether.

We’ve been asking ourselves what we can do that is actually useful.

So, for now, we’re changing our bar program and putting our regular wine-by-the-glass list on pause. In its place, we’re featuring a collection of wines, ciders and beers from Summerland producers, including quite a few bottles we’ve never featured at Elma before.

This is an easy one. Come for dinner, order a bottle, and try something new. And while you’re enjoying it, know that you’re putting money directly back into a Summerland business that needs the support right now.

We’ll be featuring these bottles while supplies last, and we hope you’ll help us drink our way through the list. A huge thank you to The Vault Liquor Merchants for helping us source this fantastic selection.

Sometimes supporting our neighbours doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes it can look like good food, good wine, and choosing where you spend your dollars 🙏

SOUP FOR OUR COMMUNITY ❤️

In Türkiye, when difficult times come, you make soup.

Soup is often the first thing offered in times of emergency, hardship and uncertainty. You make a big pot, you share it with your neighbours, and you feed whoever needs feeding.

It’s a simple gesture, but it carries a lot of meaning: warm the body, warm the soul, take care of one another.

So this is what we know how to do.

For anyone who has been evacuated, displaced, working on the front lines, or simply needs a hot meal right now, Elma will be offering complimentary soup and bread to-go.

Our soup is a hearty vegan Turkish-inspired lentil & vegetable soup (gluten free too). It’s humble food. Nourishing food. The kind of food you make when people need to be looked after.

If you need a bowl, come get one. No questions asked.

We are incredibly grateful to be part of this community, and this is one small way we can give back to the people who have supported us for so long.

To our neighbours in Summerland, Penticton and everyone affected by the fires, we’re here for you.

Stay safe, take care of each other, and let us feed you for a little while ❤️

Our doors are open ❤️

We know that right now, plans change. Reservations may need to be cancelled. Families are dealing with evacuations, smoke, road closures, uncertainty and things far more important than dinner.

Please know that we completely understand. Take care of yourselves and your people. We’ll be here when you’re ready.

For those who need somewhere to go, somewhere to sit, a hot meal, a little normalcy, or simply a place to breathe for a while… our doors are open.

We are here for Penticton
We are here for Summerland
We are here for our neighbours, our friends, our guests and our community

We’ll be open as usual and doing our best to provide a warm, safe place for people who need it.

Please stay safe, look after one another, and know that our hearts are with everyone affected by the fires.

We’re here ❤️

There are few things more Okanagan than a perfectly ripe peach in the middle of summer.

So when Peachfest comes around, we like to let the peach do what it does best: inspire us.

This year, we may have gotten a little carried away…

We kept buying them. Then we kept putting them on things. And suddenly, we had a whole Peachfest lineup!

Three dishes, three very different takes on one of the Okanagan’s best ingredients.

Smoky | Savoury | Spicy | Sweet

Our Peachfest features are on the table until August 9 🍑

It’s Peachfest at Elma! 🍑

We’ve been preparing all weekend to bring you some peachy treats! Thanks to our friends at J&J Orchards in Summerland for supplying us with these gorgeous freestone peaches. Give them a visit at 15010 Vanderburgh Ave before they sell out!

See you August 5-9!

There are dishes that feel like summer 🍉

This is one of them.

Sweet watermelon. Cool mint yogurt. Creamy feta whip. A touch of Aleppo oil and sumac to bring it all together.

Bright, refreshing, and made for warm evenings shared around the table.

We’ll be serving it this long weekend for as long as we can!

Hospitality isn’t always photogenic.

At least not in the moment.

The best nights happen while no one remembers to pick up a camera.

They’re found in conversations that linger long after the plates are cleared. In another bottle of wine that wasn’t part of the original plan. In a server who somehow remembers your favourite meze.

We’ve been lucky enough to have a lot of those nights lately.

Thank you for filling our dining room this summer.

We’ll keep saving you a seat 😊

Dear Summer,

We’ve cleaned the patio.

Filled the fridges.

Trained the new staff.

Ordered more wine than seems reasonable.

Tested recipes.

Made plans.

Changed plans.

Made new ones.

The lake is getting busier.

The sunsets are getting later.

And around here, there’s a lot to be excited about.

See you soon.
