Happy Halloween from Gillespie House Inn!

The leaves are falling, the porch lights are glowing, and the Verandah is dressed for the occasion.

Tonight, we can't wait to see all the little (and not-so-little!) trick-or-treaters climbing our steps. Ghosts and goblins, superheroes and princesses, witches and wizards — come one, come all!

Our Verandah will be lit, our treat bowls will be full, and our hearts will be ready for every "Trick or treat!"

Thank you, Parrsboro, for another wonderful season. There's nothing quite like seeing our community out together on a crisp October night.

And that's a wrap on our 2026 season!

Tonight is our last night of the season at Gillespie House Inn, and what a way to close it out. We're welcoming guests from British Columbia, Australia, and right here in Halifax. Near and far, coast to coast to across the world… that says it all about this season.

This year we've had the joy of meeting so many wonderful people. Strangers who arrived as guests and left as friends. Morning coffees that turned into hour-long conversations. Evenings on our big, beautiful veranda filled with stories, laughter, and the kind of memories that stay with you long after the bags are packed.

To every single person who stayed with us, celebrated with us, and shared a piece of their story: thank you. You are what makes this place special.

But winding down doesn't mean slowing down! Here's what's ahead:

A Gillespie House Christmas

There's something about a handmade wreath. The scent of fresh evergreen, a little ribbon, a little sparkle, and suddenly your front door is saying welcome home.

On Sunday, November 22, we're opening the doors of Gillespie House Inn for a cozy afternoon of Christmas magic, and wreath making is at the heart of it.

Fresh greenery...Ribbons, pinecones and festive trims...Good company and warm conversation!

No experience needed. Just bring your creativity, a friend or two, and your Christmas spirit. You'll leave with a one-of-a-kind wreath made by your own hands, and the joy of knowing you helped our local skaters glide into another great season.

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Gillespie House Inn

This weekend, our tables are full, our porch swings are swaying, and our hearts are grateful.

As we wind down our third season here in Parrsboro, we're pausing to give thanks for the people who make this inn what it is. To every guest who has walked through our doors, lingered over breakfast, relaxed on our veranda, gathered around the bonfire, or headed down to the beach to watch the mighty Fundy tides roll in and out — thank you. You've filled this place with laughter, stories, and connection.

To our partners and fellow businesses along the Parrsboro Shore, thank you for the collaboration and community spirit that make this corner of Nova Scotia so special. As we begin to wind down our third season at Gillespie House Inn, our hearts are full. Thank you to every guest, partner, and friend who walked through our doors, gathered on our veranda, and helped make this season one to remember.

But we're not slowing down. We're dreaming.

Today we pause. We remember. We listen.

On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, all of us at Gillespie House Inn honour the children who never came home from residential schools, the Survivors who carry their stories, and the families and communities who still feel the weight of that loss.

Here in Parrsboro, we live and welcome guests on Mi'kma'ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq people. The shores, the tides, and the red cliffs we love so dearly were cared for by the Mi'kmaq long before our doors ever opened, and we are grateful to share in this land under the Peace and Friendship Treaties.

Reconciliation isn't a single day. It's a daily practice of learning the truth, listening with an open heart, and choosing to do better, together.

Today we wear orange. We invite you to join us: take a quiet moment, read a Survivor's story, learn about the Mi'kmaw history of the place you call home, or support Indigenous-led organizations and businesses.

Every child matters. Every story matters. Every step toward healing matters.
