This post is the story about "AWESOME: a Campbellton Festival Story". 😂

James Mullinger was the one who first brought the idea to the group. At the time, we basically said, “That would be way too much work.”

Then we kept thinking about it.

We talked about it more with the festival committee and started wondering if maybe we could actually make a documentary about the festival.

While we were putting together some stuff for the Nick Nemeroff Comedy Grant, we reached out to Mike Paterson to see what he thought.

His first question was:

“First off, who watches documentaries?”

Then he asked, “Well, who would watch a documentary about a comedy festival in Campbellton?”

Mike said, “Let's make it a comedy, like a fake documentary, that would be funny. I’d be down to write and direct that.”

And that was it.

That conversation happened in November 2025, and from there, the idea just kept moving.

We started thinking about having people play themselves. The festival committee would be part of the story, the people of Campbellton would be part of it, and really, the city itself would be one of the main characters.

Then you throw a bunch of comedians into the middle of all that and see what happens.

The first draft of the script came in January. We were scouting locations in February. Les Frères Breau signed on in January, and suddenly we had a pretty great team coming together.

One of the things we really liked about the idea was that the community would be the stars.

Campbellton is a pretty quirky place, and that’s what we wanted to capture. We wanted to show the city, the people and all the little things that make this place what it is.

We didn’t want to make a movie about comedians talking about being comedians.

We wanted Campbellton to be the story: "AWESOME: a Campbellton Festival Story".

Now we just have to figure out how to direct a whole bunch of people who have never acted in a movie before. 😂

It’s kind of crazy to think that something we originally thought would be “way too much work” has turned into an actual movie.

And honestly, we couldn’t be more excited about it.

This is going to be a lot of fun, it's going to be AWESOME. 🎬
