Long weekends are always something to look forward to, especially when they come with a little extra time to spend in the kitchen.

There’s something special about slowing down, pulling out the mixing bowls, and enjoying the simple rhythm of baking without having to watch the clock. Whether it’s trying a new recipe or revisiting an old favourite, those extra hours always seem to spark a little creativity.

Days like today remind me of why I bake. It’s not just about the finished treat—it’s about the process, the comfort, and the joy that comes from creating something homemade to share with family and friends.

I hope everyone has had a wonderful long weekend and found some time to do something they enjoyed.

Today’s cake means more than most.

Being able to make the 21st birthday cake for my niece reminded me of exactly why I started Teacher Turned Baker. It’s not just about baking—it’s about celebrating people you love, being part of their milestones, and creating something meaningful with your own hands.

Happy 21st birthday, Georgia.
Watching you grow into the person you are today has been one of life’s greatest gifts. I’m so proud of you. No matter how grown up you get, you’ll always be my George —and I’ll always be your Uncle Matt, and I’ll be cheering you on every step of the way.
