WE’RE GROWING OUR FRONT-OF-HOUSE TEAM

Our busy season is coming, and we’re looking for some excellent humans to join the Samuel Pepys crew.
We have several **casual Front of House positions** available, with opportunities to start quickly and grow into more hours and responsibility for the right people.
We’d especially love to hear from:
Experienced baristas
Confident floor staff
Hospitality all-rounders, who are happy moving between coffee, customers, tables and the beautiful chaos of a busy cafe.

You’ll suit us if you’re reliable, friendly, work well in a team, naturally notice what needs doing and can keep your head when things get busy.

**Hospitality experience is important**, although barista experience isn’t essential for every role — we’re very happy to develop the right person.

Our team works across **weekdays and weekends, generally between 7am and 3pm**, and **preference will be given to applicants who have availability across both**. Weekend availability is particularly important as we head into our busiest months.

These are casual positions to begin with, but there’s genuine opportunity to learn, develop and take on more responsibility. We’d particularly love to find people who want to become part of Pepys for the longer term — rather than disappearing mysteriously into the Tasmanian mist after three weeks.

GRAND FINAL SATURDAY — A LITTLE CHANGE TO OUR HOURS!

Apparently, there's a rather important football match on tomorrow.
Now, Collingwood might not have made the Grand Final, but that certainly isn't going to stop Kylie. Our resident footy queen has plans, and we've decided it's in everyone's best interests not to stand between her and the television.
We'll be open for breakfast and coffee from 8am until 12 noon, with our last bookings at 11am.
Come and get your Pepys fix before we disappear for the afternoon. We'd book now if we were you!

Normal (or recovery) trading resumes Sunday.
And we'd book that one too. Nobody wants to be told they can't have their favourite breakfast when they're nursing a Grand Final hangover.

WE WON WAFFLE-LICIOUS!

Well. This escalated.

This morning there were television cameras, microphones, photographers and a rather large amount of attention being paid to a plate of chicken and waffles in our little café.

And now we can finally tell you why…

PEPYS WON WAFFLE-LICIOUS 2026!

And perhaps the best bit? This wasn't a dish invented just to win a competition.

This is your waffle.

Our Chicken & Waffles had already been on the Pepys menu for quite some time. We once made the questionable decision to take it off. You complained. You begged. You demanded its return.

We listened.

So when Launceston Central asked us to take part in Waffle-Licious, there really was only one waffle we could enter.

Kylie and our kitchen crew sent out the ridiculous tower of waffles, crispy fried chicken, bacon and pure Canadian maple syrup that you lot already loved…

and it won Best Waffle in Launceston.

Completely gluten free. Dairy free. And apparently rather bloody good.

We are ridiculously proud of Kylie and our whole Pepys crew — and incredibly grateful to every one of you who has eaten it, talked about it, voted, shared our posts and, most importantly, refused to let us remove the damn thing from the menu.

Turns out gluten free doesn't mean missing out.

Sometimes it means winning the whole bloody thing.

And yes. The Waffle-Licious winning Chicken & Waffles is staying on the menu.

We learnt that lesson the first time. 😂

We may have got slightly carried away

Wafflelicious is officially underway and this is our contribution to the madness: waffles stacked with crispy chicken, bacon and maple- Completely gluten free AND dairy free.

Sensible? Perhaps not.
Delicious? We stand by our decision

Here’s to the Dads. ❤️

The dads. The stepdads. The grandads.
The dads-by-choice, the father figures, the old boys we miss terribly, and the good blokes who simply turned up and stayed.

The ones who taught us things. Fixed things. Broke things while fixing things. Gave questionable advice with tremendous confidence… and somehow always knew when there was something good in the fridge.

Today, we raise a coffee to all of you.

Happy Father’s Day, from all of us at Pepys.

And if you’ve woken up this morning and thought “Bugger. I probably should take Dad somewhere…” — good news. We still have a couple of tables available this afternoon. Give us a call and we’ll see what we can do.
