🌿 HEY FOODIE FAM! 🌿

What a week! A bit like a box of chocolates… ya never know what weather we’re going to get! 😂🌦️

There’s something about spring that makes everything feel like it’s waking up from a long slumber. Slow and peaceful. And I swear the air has never smelled sweeter! 🌱

The gardens are getting greener, the days are stretching out and suddenly there are little signs of abundance everywhere.

🌕 THIS WEEK IN THE GARDEN

With the full moon, it’s time to pause, observe what’s happening in your garden and get ready for the next planting cycle.

I’m keeping an eye on the spring leafy greens and getting my lettuce, spinach, rocket, silverbeet and herbs established while the weather is still mild.

If you’re itching to plant some summer goodies, start thinking about tomatoes, capsicum, cucumber, beans and zucchini as the soil continues to warm. 🌱

The moon can be a lovely gardening rhythm to follow, but your own garden is the real teacher. Every patch has its own little microclimate, and paying attention to what happens in your soil is where the magic really happens.

I’d love to hear what you’re growing! 🌻

♻️ LET’S GET THOSE BOXES CIRCULATING!

I’d love to get a proper DHG box return program happening.

If you have any of your old DHG boxes hanging around, please bring them back clean and ready to go. You don’t even need to have an order that week. Just bring them along and I’ll happily take them off your hands!

The more boxes we can keep circulating, the less cardboard we need to use. Little things add up. 🌱♻️

🏡 A LITTLE DHG DREAM

I’m still dreaming about having my own shared little shop one day… somewhere that could make life a bit easier for all of us.

A place where we could grab our fresh local produce, pick up some comforting foods made from local ingredients, refill on bulk pantry goodies, bring our own containers and discover a few other local things along the way.
A little place that brings all these pieces together

🥕 WHOSE FRIDGES ARE LOOKING ABSOLUTELY STUNNING?? 🙌

Mine is!! 🥬 And to make sure we keep it that way, lettuce get onto the form and make next Saturday just as good as the last!

Even though the rain came in nice and wet, you all showed up with smiley faces and made my first day back extra special. 💚

It was such a wonderful day visiting the growers, making all my farm stops and then packing those lovely boxes with the abundance of veggies this land had to offer.

And now… let’s do it again! 🌱

There’s lots of beautiful local goodness making its way into the boxes this week, with plenty of options to fill your fridge and get you cooking something fun and festive.

🥬 THIS WEEK’S RECIPE

Roasted Cabbage & Cauliflower

A super simple way to turn two humble veggies into something delightfully delicious!

🥬 ½ cabbage, cut into chunky wedges
🥦 ½ cauliflower, broken into florets
🧄 2 cloves garlic, chopped
🫒 Olive oil
🧂 Salt & pepper
🍋 A squeeze of lemon
✨ Parmesan, feta or toasted seeds, if you fancy

Heat your oven to 220°C. Toss the cabbage and cauliflower with olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper. Spread onto a baking tray and roast for 25–35 minutes, turning once, until the edges are beautifully golden and crispy.

Finish with a good squeeze of lemon and whatever topping tickles your fancy.

Easy, delicious and very fridge friendly! 🌱

Hello foodie fam 💛

How fortunate I feel to be leaving with a touch of sadness. I'll not only miss the yummy veggies, but all of your smiling faces too!

Thank you for allowing me to fill your kitchens with the gathered goodness of the Great Southern. Eating local has become so much more than eating good food. It's a beautiful connection to the rhythms of nature.

Here's what's growing for you this week

A few items are in limited supply, so thank you in advance for your patience.

Trivia time! I'm making an Australian trivia game for my family reunion. If you have any fun or quirky Aussie trivia questions, send them my way! The winner gets a jar of Vegemite 😄

These boxes are going to be packed full of love this week, I don't know how I'll fit the veggies in! 🥕💛

Stay warm, stay curious, and I'll see you Saturday.

with kindness,
Linds

Hello foodie fam 💛

Winter has definitely arrived, but yay for the days getting longer! ☀️ I had the best shortest day of the year. It seemed to go on forever. Funny how time slows down when we fill our days with new experiences and a little awe and wonder.

A little life update... after much contemplation, I've decided to head off to a family reunion ✈️💛

We have just TWO more box weeks before Denmark Homegrown takes a winter hibernation. At this stage, I expect to be back in September, refreshed and ready for a spring season full of veggie goodness 🌱

Unfortunately, I haven't found anyone to take over while I'm away, so we'll be pausing for winter.

The recent rain has also caused flooding on one of our farms, a reminder that life keeps us humble and that sometimes the best thing we can do is trust, adapt, and go with the flow.

And if you know anyone looking for a short term stay in Denmark over winter, please let me know 🏡

Quick winter tip 🍲
Eating well helps keep us warm… think soups, stews, roasted veg, and slow cooked goodness to fuel the body from the inside out.

Exciting news 🥔
We’re trialling ORGANIC POTATOES this week!

Celeriac tip 🥕
Roast it, mash it, or turn it into creamy winter soup. It’s weird looking but delicious once you get to know it 😄

A fun garden moment… my cheeky chicken Popcorn keeps sneaking into the garlic patch, but quickly escapes again when I turn her way! Fingers crossed she doesn't scratch up all my garlic goodness.

Stay warm everyone, see you Saturday 💛

🍲As the cooler weather settles in, this is the season for soups, stews, & slow cooker magic; warming meals shared around the table

🍎 Little flavour tip…
Adding apples to soups and stews brings a natural sweetness that pairs beautifully with earthy veggies.

Chayote (aka Choko) inspo
Those funny little green pear shaped things are wonderfully versatile. Slice into stir fries, curries, soups, or roast alongside other veggies. They soak up flavour beautifully and can even be grated into salads or kraut.

🌙 Garden notes
Perfect weather for composting, mulching, planting garlic, leafy greens, onions, broccoli, herbs, and tending the soil before winter fully settles in. No garden? Team up with someone who has one. Food tastes better when you grow together 💛

🌱 Limited seedlings available at the end of the form if you are feeling inspired to grow a little food of your own.

Cook them, style them, decorate them, arrange them beautifully… your imagination is the limit.

Winner announced June 13th

Also, little reminder… we will be taking June 6th off. Yes, I know I said no more days off 😅 But it is my 40th birthday, and I am giving myself a little space for reflection, celebration, and soaking up this wild beautiful life.

Thank you for supporting local growers, local food, and this little veggie dream of mine 🌱

See you Saturday for all the fresh veggie goodness.

Is anyone else completely obsessed with this place we call home?
The autumn sun has a magical touch on the ocean and land that makes the earth sing. No wonder the fresh food tastes so gosh darn good around here 🌱

Check out what’s growing for you this week 👇
Local Market Box May 16

Feel free to request substitutions… or build your own box 😊

Autumn inspo 🍂
Roasted pumpkin, leafy greens, toasted seeds, feta, and apple with a honey mustard dressing = earthy crunchy yumminess.

Garden notes 🌙
Waning moon = perfect time for composting, mulching, pruning, weeding, and planting garlic, onion, beetroot, and carrots.

📦If you cannot make pickup in time, I can leave your box at the back of Palm Court (behind the butcher).

So grateful our community continues to be kind, safe, and supportive 💛
Thank you for helping us keep growing with the seasons.

Love, warmth, and crunchy veggie vibes,
