The name “BANNETON” has roots in French baking tradition.

A banneton is a proofing basket, typically made of cane, wicker, or wood pulp, that bakers use to support and shape dough while it undergoes its final rise before baking. The basket helps the dough maintain structure, encourages a uniform shape (especially for rustic loaves like sourdough), and often leaves a beautiful spiral or lined imprint on the bread’s crust.

Historically, such baskets were used across Europe in artisanal breadmaking, long before industrial baking methods.

Over time, “banneton” became not just a tool but also a symbol of traditional, handcrafted breadmaking—something that conveys care, patience, and authenticity in baking.
