I don’t often post about town matters, but today I feel compelled to say something.
I’ve watched and heard comments and complaints since the storm — everyone convinced their street or business should be prioritized, and I get it. Doing business for six days now without electricity is expensive, disruptive and frustrating, but here’s what I also see: municipality workers out before sunrise, still going after dark, doing a job that puts them in real danger.
Not one street was spared by this storm and yet most of our town is already cleaned up and most power restored.
That happened because of dedicated people working tirelessly, taking it one step at a time. No favouritism. No hidden agenda. Just hard-working people doing an incredibly tough job.
Today we were reminded just how dangerous that job really is. Shortly after this photo was taken, there was an accident and the two men in the crane were badly injured. The crane broke and they fell to the ground. I was there when this happend, and it was scary and real. We are so relieved that they are both alive, stable and in good care in hospital. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families.
As a result, our restaurant access has been blocked and we will be closed tonight..and that too is okay. There are more important things in life than business, or your meat that is no longer frozen.
So before you post that next complaint — pause. Be grateful for a team that shows up every day, even today on a Sunday, and remember they are risking their lives to do so.
🙏 Hats off to every single one of them. You are seen and you are appreciated.
So with all that said, we are pausing tonight, and with or without electricity we will be back and open tomorrow night for dinner.
