Stop placing your food on you boards before you do this....

I always start by placing my biggest items first. These become your anchors.
Bowls with dips or olives.
Cheese wedges
Bunches of grapes
Artisinal breads
Etc
Then I build everything else around them. It stops your board from looking messy and helps you create balance.
