Road Closures in Place for 2026 False Bay 50 and New 10 km Race
NOTICE OF PARTIAL ROAD CLOSURE DURING THE FALSE BAY 50 ROAD RACE ON SATURDAY, 02 MAY 2026
The Strand Athletics Club would like to inform the public of partial road closures along the R44 to accommodate the Balwin Properties FalseBay50, taking place on Saturday, 02 May 2026.
The 50 km ultra marathon will start at Kleinmond Primary School at 06h30, with runners travelling along the scenic Clarence Drive (R44) through Bettyโs Bay, Pringle Bay, Rooi Els and Kogel Bay, finishing at Gordonโs Bay Primary School.
A newly introduced 10 km race will start and finish at Gordonโs Bay Primary School, allowing more participants to take part in the event while utilising a section of the same route.
To ensure the safety of runners, marshals and hydration station volunteers, authorities have approved a partial lane closure on the mountain side of the R44 between Rooi Els and Gordonโs Bay from 06h30 to 13h30. Traffic will be accommodated in a controlled manner, with clear signage in place ahead of race day.
Residents of Gordonโs Bay, particularly those in Upper Watt, Kloof Road and Suikerbossie Road, who need to return home before 13h30, are advised to use the Faure Road / Faure Marine Drive interchange, turning left toward their destination.
Motorists and other road users are urged to use the alternative N2 via Sir Lowryโs Pass when travelling between the Helderberg and Overberg during this time. The R44 from Rooi Els towards Gordonโs Bay will remain open to controlled traffic flow.
The Strand Athletics Club thanks residents, road users and local authorities for their cooperation and support in ensuring a safe and successful event.
