Some people walk into work and quietly get on with their day.

And then there’s me… showing up with questions, ideas, commentary, a phone camera and absolutely no respect for anyone’s peace. 😂☕️

Running a café means the team sees you at your most organised, your most stressed, your most caffeinated, and unfortunately for them, your most bored.

But this is also what makes My Hometown Café feel like us. We work hard, we laugh a lot, we irritate each other affectionately, and somehow the coffee still gets made and the food still reaches the table. 😌

So if you come in and see someone behind the counter looking mildly exhausted while I’m hovering nearby with another “great idea”… now you know why. 😂

There are plenty of restaurants in PE. We know this. We respect this. We are mature adults about it.

But when one of our favourite regulars casually appears somewhere else eating breakfast like we don’t exist?

Suddenly it’s giving betrayal. Suddenly we’re questioning everything. Was the coffee not strong enough? Were the chips not crispy enough? Did we not laugh at your jokes convincingly enough? 😭

Of course you’re allowed to eat wherever you want. We’re absolutely not keeping score.

We’re just saying your usual table is here, your coffee misses you, and we noticed you were gone. That’s all. Completely normal café behaviour. 😌☕

One of the nicest parts of owning a neighbourhood café is getting to know the people who keep coming back. The orders you start recognising, the familiar faces walking through the door, and the customers who slowly stop feeling like customers at all.

So yes, we get a little attached. 💛

You could be ending our entire relationship right now, but unfortunately I have a more urgent situation to deal with: where did my black pen go? 😂🖊️

Because heartbreak is temporary. A good pen disappearing behind the counter? That’s the kind of thing that stays with you.

One minute you’re trying to listen to a serious conversation, the next you’re mentally replaying the last five minutes like CCTV footage because you KNOW that pen was right there. 👀

This is basically life at My Hometown Café: good coffee, proper food, questionable priorities and at least one completely unnecessary crisis unfolding at any given moment.

So whether you’re coming in for breakfast, lunch, a coffee date, a breakup, a reunion or just somewhere to sit while pretending to answer emails, we’ve got a table for you.

There’s something deeply humbling about taking an order on a shop phone that sounds like it survived Y2K. 😂☎️☕

Every time it rings, there’s a brief moment where you’re not sure if someone wants to order lunch… or if the café is about to connect to dial-up internet.

But she still works, she still takes orders, and honestly, at this point she’s part of the furniture. Vintage technology, modern caffeine. 😌

So yes, while the phone might sound like it has stories from another era, the food is fresh, the coffee is hot, and your order is very much being taken.
