Some places are built with bricks...
Some are built with people...
After many cups of coffee, many late nights, and many hard conversations, we’ve had to make the incredibly difficult decision to close the doors of RAAK.
This decision comes due to financial constraints that we could no longer sustain. It has not been easy to accept, but it has been necessary.
This was not an easy choice. RAAK was never just a coffee shop. It was a fireplace on a cold morning. It was Friday night curries and artisan pizzas. It was toddlers learning to sit in big chairs for the first time. It was meetings, celebrations, tears, laughter, and the kind of community you cannot manufacture.
It was friendships forming over cappuccinos!
To every customer who chose us for your morning coffee, your lunch break, your date night, your mom group, your catch-ups — thank you. You did not just support a business. You carried a dream!
To our staff… our incredible team…
You were the heartbeat. The warmth behind the counter. The steady hands during the rush. The reason people came back.
As we close, we ask our community: if you are looking to hire exceptional hospitality staff in the Port Elizabeth area, please consider reaching out. Our team members are skilled, reliable, and full of heart. They deserve new opportunities where they can continue to shine!
We also want to honour Alex. His heart for good food was never about trends or shortcuts. It was about flavour, generosity, and making sure every plate that left the kitchen meant something.
If you ever felt comforted by a meal at RAAK, that was him!
Thank you for being part of this story. Thank you for sitting at our tables. Thank you for believing in us!
RAAK may close its doors, but what was created here will always remain🫶
With much love and deep gratitude,
Almarie 🤍
