𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐔𝐍 𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐎𝐊𝐄 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐏 (𝐊𝐄𝐄𝐏𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐂𝐀𝐆𝐄𝐒 𝐂𝐎𝐎𝐋)

Ear mites are an annoying pest, but heat stroke is an instant killer. when the hot dry afternoon weather sets in, temperature inside an unshaded shed can skyrocket within hours.
Unlike dogs or humans, rabbits cannot sweat through their skin, and they cannot pant effectively to cool down their thick bodies. Their only built-in cooling mechanism is the blood circulating through the large veins in their ears. If the air in your shed gets too hot and still, their core temperature rises fast.

A beginner often doesn't notice heat stress until it is too late. You will walk into the shed in the afternoon and find your heavy breeding mothers stretched out completely flat, breathing with rapid, shallow gasps, with wet noses and dull eyes. Within an hour, high heat can cause sudden heart failure, killing your best giant breeders before they even reach market age.

To keep your Rabbitry operation safe during hot afternoons, you must take active steps to drop the temperature.
First, make sure your roof extends far enough past the cages so direct sunlight never shines straight into a hutch. Second, keep cheap, reusable plastic water bottles filled and frozen in a freezer. On the hottest afternoons, drop one frozen bottle directly into each cage. The rabbits will immediately lay against the cold ice to cool their blood. Finally, wetting down the roof or wetting the swept dirt floor under the cages creates a cool breeze through evaporation that can save your entire herd!

Do you have a daily heat protection plan like frozen bottles for hot afternoons, or are you risking heat stroke in your cages?

Feed Is an Investment,Not an Expense
Cheap feed leads to poor growth and weak Rabbits
Use balanced feed rich in crude protein and High fiber.
Good feed = healthy Rabbits = better profits.

Once you have decided to invest in professional, all-wire commercial cages, you must carefully figure out exactly where to put them. A very common beginner mistake is locking the cages inside a tightly closed shed, an unused garage, or a dark, stuffy room. Rabbits are essentially wearing thick, heavy fur coats all year round. While their bodies are perfectly designed to handle cold weather, they are incredibly sensitive to heat.

If you position your cages in direct, blazing sunlight or inside a poorly ventilated building, your heavy commercial breeds like New zealand white will quickly suffer from severe heat stress. When a rabbit gets too hot, it will completely stop eating and drinking. Bucks will become temporarily sterile and refuse to breed, and pregnant does can easily lose their litters. In severe cases, extreme heat without airflow can be fatal to your entire flock in just a matter of hours.

A profitable rabbit cage system is always built with fresh air as a top priority. Your rabbit shed should have a high roof to block the direct heat of the sun, and the sides should be heavily open to allow a natural breeze to flow straight through the wire cages at all times. Positioning the farm under the natural shade of large trees, and aligning the building so it catches the gentle morning light but is protected from the harsh afternoon sun, is the ultimate secret to keeping your breeders cool, healthy, and highly productive.

Have you already picked out a cool, breezy, shaded spot for your new farm, or were you originally planning to keep your cages tucked away inside a closed building?

DOE VISITS BUCK.

Bringing a female rabbit to meet a male is a very important moment, but you must do it the right way to avoid a "boxing match." The golden rule is that the wife must always visit the husband's house. If you put the male into the female's cage, she will see him as an intruder or a thief. She will get angry and try to protect her territory, which leads to fighting instead of mating. By bringing her to the male's cage, she stays focused on the new environment while the male focuses on doing his job.

Once they are together, stay and watch them for a few minutes. You are looking for the "fall-off." When the mating is successful, the male will let out a small squeak and literally fall over on his side as if he has fainted for a second. This is the sign that your 31-day countdown to new babies has officially started. If the female is running away or trying to bite, do not force it. Just take her back to her cage and try again the next morning when the weather is cool and quiet. A calm mating session is the first step to a healthy, large litter.
