The Best Exotic Frangipani Happy Beach Cottage Perfect getaway for couples, solo adventurers, small families, or someone looking for peace and quiet to finish writing that book! Bucket list for many!

Perfect weekend getaway or longer holidays for couples, solo adventurers, small families, or someone looking for peace and quiet to finish writing that book... The cottage is a 2 minute walk from the Kariega River, slipway and lagoon. The main Blue Flag Beach is 5 mins walk away as is a restaurant overlooking the river, beach, and Indian Ocean. The cottage is a 5 minutes stroll from the village centre. This is a quirky, revamped one bedroom garden cottage, with a lovely sunny kitchen and separate lounge with French doors that open onto my garden. The cottage has a small private garden area but you are welcome to enjoy my garden too. I have an outdoor braai/barbecue area, which you are most welcome to use, except possibly in December/January and April when my family will be here. Access by prior arrangement though during that time. There is a lockable area outside the back door where you can store surfboards, bicycles etc. The main house is one of the original houses in the village - it is over 80 years old. It has its own separate entrance, is set back from the road, with off street parking at the side of my house. I enjoy meeting and interacting with people, so I'm available for a chat, glass of wine or to give any advice about the area that you want. But be assured however that I will respect your privacy at all times if you prefer. Kenton-on-Sea, often called 'the village between two rivers' is unique in that it is off the main coastal road with 2 rivers- Kariega & Bushmans- as 'boundaries' with the pristine beachfront and Joan Muirhead Nature Reserve connecting them. Kariega Main beach has international Blue Flag status and Middle Beach pilot Blue Flag status. There is easy access to all shops, a number of eateries and coffee shops, as well as an art gallery, craft and bookshop. Safe swimming, rock pools, hikes, township tours, bird watching, mountain-biking, horse & canoe trails, boat trips, fishing, dune boarding, surfing & kite-surfing. You can also enjoy the best of the bush at the Sibuya and Kariega Game Reserves, which are a 10 minute drive away. Addo Elephant Park (which has the Big 7) is a popular day trip from here. The Marine Section of the Park extends up the coast from Woody Cape (nr. Alexandria) to Cannon Rocks, a 10 minute drive from here. The Alexandria Dune-fields begin here extending to Colchester/Sundays River near Port Elizabeth. These are the fastest shifting dune-fields in the S. Hemisphere and visible from outer space. I live with my 2 small friendly dogs (Yorkies) Moya and Tabu. We enjoy the sea, sand and sun downers at the beach with friends. Love music - opera/ classical and 'old time' jazz. Reading biographical books, historical/true life and human interest stories plus mystery/detective novels. Entertainment here is mostly TV - programs similar to what I read, news local and world as I need to keep informed, sport from tennis - F1 Grand Prix and in-between, but not wrestling :) Love travelling lesser known routes and safaris, but Cape Town and environs for a culture 'fix' -theater, dance, music etc. I've been in the tourism industry for many years and enjoy meeting people from all walks of life, sharing the attractions in this area with interested visitors. As a passionate, qualifed cultural tour guide I can steer you in the right direction, whatever your particular interests are. Would love to help you to discover what the area has to offer and tell you about what is happening at any given time. Advice on your onward travels in this area, the Eastern Cape in particular and the country as a whole is also available. That said, I'm very happy to leave you to your own devices too! BREAKING NEWS
The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize to Navanethem “Navi” Pillay for her efforts to promote peace and international law.

The Nobel Peace Prize for 2026 goes to a person who with exceptional courage and integrity has led the way towards a more comprehensive global legal order. This year’s laureate has been instrumental in ensuring that war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide are prosecuted.

Navi Pillay’s commitment to universal legal principles and her firm moral compass are constants in a long career. Born into a family of Indian Tamil origin under apartheid in Durban, South Africa, Pillay became a lawyer and legal pioneer, confronting deep structural discrimination, segregation and exclusion. A common thread runs from her early work defending Nelson Mandela and others who stood up against apartheid to her service as a judge in some of the key international court cases of our time.

This year’s laureate has significantly enlarged the scope and impact of international law. She has served as a judge on the High Court in South Africa, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the International Criminal Court. She was the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and, until recently, she chaired the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory. Today Navi Pillay is a judge on the International Court of Justice in the case where Myanmar stands accused of genocide.

In historic international court cases, she has shown that legal measures can help prevent acts of war and violence. Navi Pillay has also contributed to strengthen the institutions of international law. Her independence, expertise and steadfastness have made her one of the most respected international jurists of our time.

In awarding this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, the Norwegian Nobel Committee wants to remind the world that the rule of law – national and international – underpins the system we have set up to ensure peace and resolve conflicts non-violently. Peace requires justice.

History has shown that a world operating without the rule of law is unjust, unwise and inhumane. The judges – those who guard the thin red line between order and chaos – are therefore highly deserving of our praise. But today, as these same judges are sanctioned, and their institutions are attacked, we need people of courage, vision and determination – qualities that Navi Pillay demonstrates in her work on the bench.

Navi Pillay has held states and national leaders accountable and brought hope to victims of violence and conflict. In all the positions she has held, she has stressed the responsibility of individuals and states to comply with the rule of law. She has also helped define the relevant norms and legal principles. When the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda established that r**e and sexual violence could constitute a crime against humanity – as well as genocide – her influence was a significant factor. In the same case, Ms Pillay was instrumental in a separate legal breakthrough: for the first time, a defendant faced charges of incitement to commit genocide purely on the basis of spreading propaganda.

Navi Pillay is one of the great defenders of international legal principles in our time. Her distinguished career reminds us of the need to support, fortify and expand the global rule of law. Navi Pillay’s commitment to justice and human dignity is a source of hope and inspiration to all who seek to bring about a more peaceful world.

Press release: We are devastated to let our Kariega community know that we have suffered a poaching attack and have lost a dehorned rhino cow and her two year old calf. Due to the ongoing investigation we cannot share any more information. Needless to say we will use our anger to fuel the fight and to rise as a community to save this endangered species from further brutality and death.
