Trends move quickly in every industry. One minute it’s matcha, cold brew, or an endless variety of flavoured lattes. Next, the focus shifts towards wellness, functional beverages, and more health-conscious options.

Some trends become part of everyday behaviour and genuinely reshape the market. Others are more short-lived and depend entirely on the environment, the customer, and whether they actually fit the space they’re being introduced into.

The same applies far beyond beverages. Every industry experiences shifts in what’s popular, what’s in demand, and what businesses feel pressured to adopt, but trending doesn’t always translate to long-term value, and not every trend is the right fit for every environment. The important part is knowing the difference, understanding what genuinely adds to the experience, what suits the customer, and what makes sense beyond the initial hype.

At the end of the day, the goal isn’t to follow every trend that comes along. It’s to understand what makes sense for the people and spaces you’re actually trying to serve.

When choosing equipment, most people naturally focus on the visible things first, the drinks menu, the design, or the overall look and feel within the space.

What often matters more, or as much, is how that equipment will operate day-to-day once the excitement of installation has passed.

Cleaning requirements, durability, ease of use, serviceability, peak periods, staffing, and overall workflow all play a role in whether a setup continues to work properly over time.

The strongest solutions usually aren’t the most complicated or feature-heavy, they're the ones that suit the environment properly and continue to perform consistently long after they’ve been installed

Winter tends to change how people consume.

Hot chocolate picks up, “specialty” drinks become more popular, and guests naturally lean towards warmer, more comforting options. It’s also the time when people slow down slightly, which means the overall beverage experience starts to matter a lot more.

For hospitality spaces especially, there’s often an opportunity to do more with what’s already available. A seasonal drink special, a winter warmer menu, or simply presenting existing products differently can shift the experience without needing to overhaul the entire offering.

Sometimes the strongest additions aren’t new products at all, but a more considered way of using what’s already available.

Next month, we’ll be stepping onto the other side of the exhibition floor.

After years of attending industry events, connecting with suppliers, and seeing how others are approaching similar challenges, this will be our first time exhibiting at the Hospitality Expo at CTICC in Cape Town. It’s a different perspective, and one we’re looking forward to. A discussion we often have with clients when showcasing bean-to-cup and vending solutions, is milk options.
In some environments, fresh milk is the preferred route. It delivers on quality, texture, and overall experience, and makes sense where that level of finish is important. In others, powder-based milk systems are the more practical choice. They offer consistency, speed, and ease of use, especially in higher-volume or less hands-on environments.

It’s important to note that neither is better than the other, they’re simply just different ways of solving for different needs. Having both options available across certain solutions makes those decisions a lot more straightforward. It allows the setup to be shaped around the environment, rather than forcing the environment to fit the setup.

Some of the most useful perspectives come from being out of the office.

Between recent showcases, launch events, client conversations, and time spent in different environments, one thing stands out quite clearly: no two spaces operate the same way.

What works in one setting doesn’t always translate directly into another. The pace, the people, the expectations, it all shifts. And with that, what’s needed from a beverage offering shifts too. It’s a good reminder that there isn’t a single “right” solution, and the value lies in understanding the environment properly and building something that actually fits within it.

One of the easiest ways to fall behind in this industry is to assume things stay the same.

Time spent with clients outside of installations and day-to-day operations often reveals the most. It’s where changing expectations start to surface, and where opportunities to evolve become clearer.

Through recent and ongoing conversations with clients, the focus has shifted to changing guest behaviour and to where more functional, wellness-led products could fit into their offerings. From protein-based drinks to more considered menu additions, there’s a clear opportunity to better align with how people are choosing to consume today.

This is a big part of how we approach our work. Not just delivering a solution and moving on, but staying close, understanding the environment, and continuing to build on what’s already there.

Some of the most meaningful work we’ve done hasn’t come from new business. It’s come from long-standing client relationships.

Over time, those relationships move beyond supply and become partnerships with a shared understanding of the environment, the pressures, and the opportunity to improve and grow.

We’ve worked with clients as they’ve evolved their own businesses, expanding offerings, refining their spaces, and building stronger brands. Being part of that journey is where the real value sits. When you understand a client’s environment properly, you’re not just delivering a product. You’re contributing to how that space performs and how it’s experienced.

The last few weeks have been big for both us and the environments and customers we serve.

We’ve introduced a fully automated, self-service beverage system that delivers both coffee and functional drinks, including protein, collagen, creatine, and electrolytes, from a single, high-performance platform. It’s a shift in how beverages support the modern workplace.

For a long time, it’s been centred around coffee. Today, businesses are thinking more broadly about energy, wellbeing, and performance throughout the day, and what they offer needs to reflect that.

This is not just another machine. It’s a new beverage category, designed to support people, environments, and performance at scale.

Big night for us last night! Biogen hosted the official announcement of our partnership on their stand at the Two Oceans Marathon expo at CTICC, and we were right there with them to bring it to life and introduce Avanti.

It was a full stand, great energy, and a mix of incredible athletes, influencers, partners, sponsors, and guests all coming through to see what we’ve been building together!

This partnership has been shaped around a shared focus, quality, performance, and creating something that actually adds value to the spaces both Avanti and Biogen work in. Bringing together premium coffee with functional, wellness-driven drinks in a way that feels relevant, easy, and genuinely exciting. People engaging, asking questions, trying it out, and getting involved is such a proud moment for us. We've met some really cool people, and the potential for this partnership and solution is most definitely well on its way!

Best of all, we’re still here, the event in full swing, and the first of many morning protein drinks already being dispensed.
