You asked for funk, this month we’re delivering 🕺🏾

Possibly one of the boldest, booziest, funkiest coffees we’ve released, and it’s the headliner in the June Curated Subscription Box!

The founding farm of Cafe Granja La Esperanza, Potosi farm has a rich heritage of excellence, producing some of the most consistently great coffees out of the Valle del Cuaca region. This farm has been in the Herrera family since 1945. Potosi has been a hotspot of experimentation, with many varieties, processing and drying methods being tested, pushing the boundaries and being an early leader in innovation at origin.

A fire destroying one of the mills on Potosi farm was an inflection point in the story of our coffee. The Hererra brothers used this as an opportunity to redesign the mill around three large mechanical dryers, powered by flames to speed up the initial drying phase of the coffee. The flames are said to visibly flare out of the dryers during this process, giving the three dryers the appearance of three fire-breathing dragons, giving this processing method its name, Tres Dragones 🐉🐉🐉

NEW SPECIAL RELEASE: Chevas Estate Natural 🇵🇦🩷

We are so excited to add Chevas Coffee Estate to our offer list. Over the last year, our love and fascination with Panamanian geisha has grown, and so has the demand for them among our customers! This has given us the opportunity to diversify and expand on our Panamanian geisha range, and Chevas Coffee Estate has been high on our wish list for some time now.
A modern coffee producer with generations of history behind it. In 2016, José Luis Chevas founded Chevas Coffee Estate, a specialty coffee producer in a small town in Panama called Boquete. With the goal of crafting complex, flavour-forward coffees for the high-end specialty coffee market. In 2024, Chevas Coffee Estate placed 9th in the Natural Geisha category at Best of Panama – an outstanding achievement for such a young farm.

The coffee that used to win KZN Regionals!

Abu Coffee has been on our wishlist for a very long time! The farm is located in the Cañas Verdes region, Boquete, a dense rainforest area. The farm is covered by stunning natural forest, providing shade for the coffee trees which results in optimal cherry maturation and peak sugar content in the cherry before harvesting. The average altitude on the farm is 1550 masl, with volatile, volcanic soil. Morning and evening sunlight, coupled with the mist of the rainforest during the day makes Abu perfect for growing coffee. Abu is a rising star in competition-level Panamanian coffee, gaining traction and fame. Their neighbours include Hacienda Esmeralda, Elida Estate (world record price for both scores and price) and others.

Now available in our webstore!!

NEW COFFEE: Adado Natural 🇪🇹

In the famed Yirgacheffe region of Ethiopia, Adado has become a sought after wash station for specialty coffee buyers all around the world. As the birthplace of coffee, the Arabica varietal thrives in the Ethiopian climate, particularly in Yirgacheffe where it used to grow wild before it grew anywhere else in the world – making it one of the best coffee producing regions in the world. Combine this with Adado Washing Station’s razor sharp focus on quality, the product speaks for itself. Most producers in Ethiopia are smallholders, and the majority continue to cultivate coffee using traditional methods. As a result, most coffee is grown with no chemical fertilizer or pesticide use. Coffee is almost entirely cultivated, harvested and dried using manual systems.

NEW MICROLOT: Vunga Natural 🇷🇼💙

Owned and operated by prominent leader in the community, Daphrose Uwimana, making it one of very few coffee wash stations that is led by a woman. This is a great entry level coffee for those who are a bit intimidated by light roast single origin coffee. It is easy and approachable, a worthy staple for your cupboard! Vunga CWS is a part of Muraho Trading Co. in Rwanda.

For brewing a pleasing, tasty-every-time cup of coffee at home, this is one you need to add to the lineup. “In 2017 we began a new partnership with the Vunga Cooperative Families. Vunga was established in March 2009 and consists of 260 members. It is a woman led cooperative and is located in the Nyabihu District, North Western Region of Rwanda. Vunga sits close to the borders of our neighbours in the north Uganda and west the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). This tiny coffee washing station (CWS) is hidden in between the trademark steep hills of Nyabihu and thousands of plantain and banana trees. The station receives its water from the natural source from the nearby and famed Virunga National Park.”
