Uvongo Parkrun Historical Events: #541 (4)

From time to time, the Uvongo parkrun page will feature "On This Day" memories from Uvongo parkrun events that have taken place in the past, this with thanks to followers of the Uvongo parkrun page that have made their photographs and/or videos/reels available to be shared here.

This, the ninth of the "On This Day" featured memories is from the Uvongo parkrun event #541 which took place 1 year ago today, on the 7th June 2025, and will be shared in several parts by the way of photographs taken on the day as well as video coverage captured during the event. All the content making up this "On This Day" memory is with thanks to Bradley King.

The Uvongo parkrun event #541 attracted a field of 225 parkrunners on the day and was an event which had to almost play second fiddle to the arrival of the sardines when they arrived at St Michaels on Sea Beach literally almost just over half an hour before the parkrun was set to take place..... at just before 07:00 a.m. on the day, in setting up the parkrun course, it was noted that it was looking like any other typical parkrun day..... quiet as could be expected at that time of the morning, but then that was very short lived because within half an hour later the entire beach was abuzz with activity surrounding the arrival of the small, silvery elongated fishes..... a few of our would be parkrunners and volunteers on the day were lost to our parkrun when they chose to remove their running shoes and head on down to the water barefoot to partake in the fishing frenzy. Luckily we were spared the same occurrence at yesterday mornings Uvongo parkrun event #594 since the sardines have not as yet made their appearance.
