Durban-born businessman Vivian Reddy transformed a R500 ($30) loan into a diversified corporate empire spanning energy, healthcare, casinos, and real estate.
Today, he is the visionary driving force behind the massive R4.3 billion ($260 million) Oceans Umhlanga Mixed-Use Development, a transformative project successfully reshaping Durban's coastal skyline and boosting local tourism.
Dismissed from an engineering apprenticeship during apartheid for actively supporting Black workers, Reddy fearlessly pivoted to entrepreneurship. He established Edison Power, scaling it into the country's largest electrical firm.
His latest milestones include the $68.5 million Oceans Mall and the prestigious $52.7 million Radisson Blu Hotel.
Beyond luxury, the precinct prioritizes absolute economic inclusion: 65 percent of the mall's tenants are Black businesses, and construction safely generated over 25,000 vital local jobs.
With the recent launch of the new North Tower, Reddy continues to perfectly merge high-end real estate with deep community empowerment.
