Top 5 Tips to Pack More Plants Into Your Diet:

1. Add greens to everything. Bear with us, it might sound like a tall order but just a couple of handfuls of spinach added to stir-fry or stews, sarmies or smoothies will boost your daily intake of carotenoids, vitamin C, vitamin K, folic acid, iron, and calcium .
2. Choose lentils or beans to add to your mince based dishes. If you switch to using half lentils, half meat in your bolognese sauce you're exchanging saturated fat for fibre and will save a pretty penny while you're at it.
3. Don't throw out those browning banana. Before they turn, chop them up and throw them in the freezer so you have a handy frozen fruit for quick smoothies or dessert toppings.
4. Try a ‘Meatless Monday’. Making small changes to your diet can have a positive impact on your health. A study of more than 200,000 participants found that replacing just one serving of red meat per day with a serving of legumes or nuts helped to lower the risk of Type 2 diabetes by 30%.

Walk into any supermarket or scroll through social media, and you’ll be bombarded with products boasting high protein content; from powders and bars to water and even cereal. But what’s behind this surge in protein popularity? Is it just clever marketing feeding a multi-billion dollar industry, or is there genuine merit to the craze?

At its core, protein is essential. It’s one of the three macronutrients (alongside carbohydrates and fats) that our bodies need in significant amounts and without them, we literally couldn’t function. But while protein is vital, most people already get enough of it through a balanced diet. So why the obsession?
