Pickling is REALLY old!
Pickling is one of the oldest methods of preserving food. Evidence of pickling dates back thousands of years, with references to pickled foods going as far back as around 2400 BC. Long before refrigerators and freezers existed, pickling allowed people to preserve seasonal produce and enjoy it long after harvest.

Think you know your pickles? There’s more to these crunchy, tangy favourites than meets the eye! Here are a few fun facts that might surprise you.

Fresh is NOT always best!
Unlike many fresh foods, pickles can actually improve with age. As they sit in their pickling liquid, the flavours have more time to develop and the ingredients become wonderfully tangy and well-rounded. So, when it comes to properly stored pickles, don’t automatically reach for the newest bottle — sometimes the older one is the tastier one!
