Vocalist Jamy-Lee Simons is set to perform at JusJazzin at Emakhosini Boutique Hotel on Thursday, 1 December 2022, at 18:00. Having graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from the School of Music and Dramatic Arts, Jamey-Lee draws on these experiences as she brings to bear in performances her emotional engagement with the narratives she tells through songs. It is always an unforgettable experience when she performs.
Ella Fitzgerald is noted to have famously said that “the only thing better than singing is more singing” quote aptly describes the sultry voice of Jamy-Lee. Besides the beauty of her voice and interpretation, Jamy-Lee connects with her audience in a way that enhances the musical experience. Chatradari Devroop observes that Jamy-Lee has a way of captivating the listener and drawing them into her full musical expressions.
In her journey as a live performer, Jamy-Lee has been honored to have performed in various venues, crossed paths with and worked alongside giants in the South African live performances scene, including Theo Bophela, Jerry Kunene, Philani Ngidi, Chatradari Devroop, Burton Naidoo, Trevor Donjeany, Gcina Mlope, Robbie Watson, and Shaun Peterson. Over the years, Jamy-lee has been able to refine her live performances by being an active member of the Afro Divas and the Nu Savoys, both well-known, highly entertaining, and energetic bands. She has thoroughly traveled all over the country with the Divas and Savoys, performing for diverse crowds.
Thus far, her most significant performance includes traveling to Mauritius and performing as a solo vocalist alongside a fabulous band at the famous Le Saint Géran hotel. Jamey-Lee played Mrs. Claus at the Dolphins by starlight, a highlight on Durban’s calendar hosted by Ushaka Marine World, singing the show-stopping hit “All I want for Christmas is you.” She is also on the cast for the Dolphins by starlight musical for a consecutive year. During the Covid pandemic, Jamy- Lee sponsored performances at various nursing homes with DJ Allen Chetty to help uplift and bring joy into the lives of the elderly.
She is passionate about her performances, open-minded, and continually learning to perfect the art of performance.
