Snoekies first began after WWII by Hans Mickeleit and his family when
he fell in love with the port village of Hout Bay. As a boy Hans watched fish being smoked
at his homeport in Poland. When in Cape Town, he purchased an old bus and converted it into
a takeaway café, positioned at the end of the Harbour Road in Hout Bay.
Before long their demand grew and in 1956 he built a factory in the Hout Bay harbour.
The business was later sold in 1959, with his secret smoked fish to South African Sea Products
under their Oceana division. For more than 60 years since it's humble beginning, the Snoekies brand
has been run by entrepreneurs David Aronson and Justin Strong, continuing to provide locals
and tourists with light, crispy golden batter hake and freshly cut chips.
With 5 different locations around the Cape Town area, there is every opportunity to stop by
and enjoy a delicious meal. They also sell the freshest bait to help you catch
that fish of a life time.
