We opened Deer Park Cafe in 2004 with the intention of providing delicious and nourishing meals, made from scratch with quality ingredients, ethically and local sourced, and presented with minimal fuss. During lock down we started delivering meals as well as homemade dips, pasta sauces and curry pastes, and a selection of our carefully sourced meats, cheese, breads and pantry basics. The Café reop

ened in September but at the end of January 2021 closed for Signatura’s redevelopment of Deer Park Place. Deer Park Cafe will reopen on the park in 2022; till then we continue to cook from home, working on a weekly changing menu that is delivered every Thursday. Our philosophy – that good quality, ethically sourced ingredients are the essential basis for great tasting meals – remains unchanged. We still believe in cooking vegan meals so delicious even carnivores come back for more. We continue to provide delectable children’s meals, cooked from scratch for busy parents. We will always love cooking authentic Indian – not just the predictable North Indian fare but delighting in the unique, fresh, complex flavours of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Goa...

Who's in the Kitchen? Carin: Trained in macrobiotic cooking in New York, then returned to Cape Town to run the vegetarian kitchen at Fields, the city's iconic health shop, and established it's reputation for the best vegetarian fare in the City. A brief hiatus as a mother followed before 17 years at the helm of Deer Park Cafe with partner Roger. Favourite travel destination....? Ashton: Raised in Goa and taught to cook by his grandmother and mother, he first mastered the unique blend of Indian and Portuguese cuisine influences typical to this tropical Indian state. Trained professionally at IHM, worked in 5-star hotels then traveled the subcontinent, sampling recipes from Shimla and Kolkata to Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

With an impressive culinary background, including working with chef Wandile Mabaso on prestigious GLS Dinners, Prisca brings a wealth of experience, creativity, and passion to our kitchen.

Her positive energy, love for food, and ability to unite a team make her a perfect fit for Deer Park Café, and we are delighted to have her helping lead our much-loved family 🔥

It’s simple: bring your burger partner, order a burger, get one free. Free-range beef in a fresh-baked sesame bun with all the trimmings and handcut chips. Because it’s Burger Monday, every Monday.

Every day, Monday to Thursday, we are running a 2-for-1 Special – that’s right, order one – of whatever is on special that night – and get another one on us!

(Note that the 2-4-1 Specials are not applicable for take outs.)

BURGER MONDAYS …

You’ve got through the toughest day… Now order our DPC free-range beef burger and hand-cut potato chips, and get another one on us! We make our patties with free-range beef from Ryan Boon Speciality Meats, soya sauce, fresh coriander, fresh parsley, pepper, a touch of salt and garlic. Served in our home-baked sesame bun, with lettuce, rocket, tomato, pickles, matured Gruberg cheese and our own tomato chili relish.

TACO TUESDAYS?

It’s Tuesday, and who doesn’t love a taco? We’ll serve you three – handmade here with masa harina – with your choice of filling: either our deliciously smoky chipotle free-range chicken, or chipotle free-range beef, or chipotle toasted cauliflower... Served with salted cabbage; red pepper, pineapple and fresh coriander salsa; sliced jalapeño; sour cream. And yes – order one, get one free.

WEDNESDAY IS CURRY NIGHT!

Chef Ashton’s legendary curries, times two divided by one! Our blackboard menu changes weekly but we will always have two curries on our blackboard, and tonight you get to order both for the price of one, or order two of the same. Served with basmati rice or a flaky paratha, fresh papadums, raita (yoghurt with cucumber, onion, chili, tomato) or tomato-onion salsa, and Ashton’s surprise pickle.

PHEW IT’S PIZZA THURSDAY

Just about made it through the week; time for a treat. Our thin rustic pizza bases are made from stoneground flour and baked in our wood-fired oven with Bandini mozzarella cheese and your choice of toppings. Order any pizza from our menu, or create your own, and you get a free margarita pizza delivered to your table! (Feel free to add toppings to your free pizza; you’ll pay only for the extra toppings.)

Back by popular demand! Join us Tuesday, 4 November 7PM for a talk by astrophysicist as he explores the grand scales, structures and evolution of our universe.

Damien holds a BSc in physics and astrophysics from UCT and completed his honours through the National Astrophysics and Space Science Programme (NASSP). He is busy completing his MSc at UCT where he works on the LADUMA survey, the deepest neutral hydrogen survey to date, using the MeerKAT telescope.
