Not yet a bar. Not quite a snack. Before our chocolate bars become chocolate, they are cacao nibs.

These little pieces of roasted cacao bean are where it all begins. Crunchy, intensely chocolatey, and packed with rich flavour, they're one of the purest ways to experience cacao and how you can enjoy our chocolate in its most honest form.

Have you tried them before? 🍫

Our first chocolate workshop for July sold out... so we've added a second date!

If you've ever wondered how we make our chocolate, join us at our Woodstock factory for our Chocolate Workshop on Saturday, 18 July, where you'll get a behind-the-scenes look into our bean to bar chocolate. 🍫

You'll get the chance to taste our handcrafted range, learn about ethically sourced cacao, and take home your own chocolate slab.

Spaces are limited, and if the first workshop date was anything to go by, they won't last long! πŸ˜…

What a night 🀎

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our first The Good Table, and to our incredible partners The Gin Bar, Bodega Ramen, Lomond Wine and silobakery and .digital for helping bring it to life.

Together, we raised R16,000 for Ladles Of Love South Africa, helping support their work feeding communities across Cape Town.

70 guests. One long table. Plenty of soup, wine, chocolate, and great conversation.

Next up: Curry Night πŸ›

If you missed this one, we'd love to see you at the next.

Swimming in Kalk Bay? Brownie's on us this!

This winter, surfers and swimmers can enjoy a free brownie when you order any hot beverage from our cafe in de Kalkery, all day from Monday to Friday. The catch? Just make sure you show us you've taken the plunge - wet hair, wet towel or a wetsuit count! 🌊

One of the most important steps in making great chocolate? Tempering. 🍫

Tempering is the process of carefully heating and cooling chocolate to stabilise the cocoa butter crystals. It might sound technical, but it's what gives our chocolate that smooth texture, glossy finish, and satisfying snap when you break a piece off.

Without tempering, chocolate can become dull, soft, or develop a white coating known as bloom.

As a bean-to-bar chocolate maker, we temper every batch by hand as part of our production process in our Woodstock factory. It's one of those behind-the-scenes steps that takes time and attention, but makes all the difference in the final bar.

Have you ever noticed the snap of a well-made chocolate bar? 🀎

Some things are better enjoyed in pairs 🀎

A slice of chocolate cake and a coffee.
A choc chip pecan tart and hot chocolate.
You and your favourite cafe companion.

Our cafes have always been about more than what's on the table. They're about conversations that happen around it, the moments shared, and the simple pleasure of taking your time.

Tag someone you's share this table with! β˜•οΈ 🍰

A simple pleasure: good chocolate, made with care 🍫

Our bean to bar chocolate is crafted from organic Tanzanian cacao, made in small batches, and wrapped up ready to be shared (or kept for yourself, we won't judge).

Sometimes the hardest part is choosing which one to take home. Tell us: what's your favourite Honest Chocolate slab?

Did you know it takes 5 days to make a chocolate slab from scratch?

We start with cacao beans from in Tanzania and make our chocolate from scratch, taking each bean through every step. From roasting to grinding, tempering to wrapping, we shape each bar by hand.

This is what we mean by bean-to-bar. It takes time, but it’s how we keep things honest. 🍫

We've just received our latest shipment of organic cacao beans directly from producers in Tanzania! 🍫

These organic beans come through our direct trade relationship with , a premium cacao producer that works closely with local farmers to provide us high quality cacao with care and transparency at every step.

For us, bean-to-bar starts long before the chocolate is made and what you get to finally enjoy with our slabs. It starts at origin, with the people growing the cacao, the relationships built over time, and a supply chain rooted in ethics, traceability, and respect.

Now, the next part of the journey begins here in our factory - making chocolate! 🀎
