What is Pani Puri? 👀✨
One of India’s most iconic street foods, Pani Puri has a history that dates back hundreds of years. Many believe it began in the ancient region of Magadha (modern-day Bihar, India), where early versions of crispy wheat shells were filled with spiced ingredients and flavoured water. Over time, it travelled across India, evolving into the much-loved snack we know today. In North India it’s called Golgappa, in Bengal it’s known as Puchka, and every city proudly has its own version.
So what is it?
A crispy hollow puri, filled with spiced potatoes, chickpeas, chutneys, onions, sev and finished with chilled tangy mint-spiced pani (flavoured water). It’s sweet, spicy, crunchy, refreshing and packed with flavour in one bite.
