The 804 Trail runs right past our door, and it stays protected thanks in part to View the Future, the local nonprofit working to conserve the land and trails around Yachats. The Fireside is proud to support their work, including our guests who contribute $1 per night of their stay to help maintain the 804 Trail.

View the Future is holding its first annual fundraiser, Rooted & Rising, with Indigenous leaders and advocates, built around conservation, culture and community. It opens with reflections from Robert Kentta, Tribal Council member of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, followed by a keynote from Amy Bowers Cordalis, Yurok attorney and advocate whose work helped make the historic restoration of the Klamath River possible.

Bay clams vs. razor clams: what's the difference? 🐚

Bay clams mean calm estuary flats, digging by hand at low tide, easygoing and dog-friendly. Razor clams mean chasing the surf line on open beaches, faster and wetter.

From beach to bowl, even when the bucket comes home empty. 🐚 Skip the dig and let the pros do it: Luna Sea Fish House for fresh local seafood and chowder, or the Drift Inn for a warm bowl of chowder. 🍜

If your bucket is full, for a grit-free feast: soak your fresh clams in cold saltwater for about 30 minutes before cooking so they purge the sand. 🐚 Beach to bowl, done right.
