Many businesses are closed today for the Juneteenth holiday, but we are very much OPEN today at Lucas Roasting Company.
We know some people have a lot to say about whether this holiday is celebrated or not, but here's a human compassion angle we're sure some of you have never considered.
In the products of worldwide industries that so many of us enjoy, wage slavery still exists yet today. The labor-intensive industries would be the most notable places to look first. So, all kinds of farming(coffee, tea, cacao, sugarcane, fruits, vegetables, diamonds, etc) where the top of the pyramid makes wages far greater than those acting as laborers.
There may not be any perfect system, but the people producing the labor HAVE TO be respected as much as those at the top are revered. And that's what this day reminds us to be aware of today, even though the Emancipation Proclamation was signed in 1863. And even though it was signed, slavery was such a strong force that it would be two years later before Union troops arrived in Galveston, TX, to pronounce the end of slavery.
That's our two cents for this Friday holiday, and we hope to see you in Wolfeboro from 7A-3P today!
