Around 1908, Charles and Ellen Pyle acquired the property that would become the Wise River Hotel, which was built and operating by 1913.

Ellen served as Wise River’s first postmaster until 1924, when she became ill and Charles took over.

Despite old rumors and tales the post office is still apart of our structure and the roof line can be seen today.

But the hotel’s early days weren’t without danger. Local stories tell of outlaws and bandits frequenting the hotel and post office. Charles was said to have kept sh****ns and ri**es hidden throughout the building, always within arm’s reach should trouble come through the door.

More than a century later, those walls are still standing, and the stories of the people who built this place live on.
