Special this week: Old Rock Barn full of great kids books please take free for children, grandkids etc....bring them to come pick out some books.

Also, butternut squash soup and fried green tomatoes a variety of ways(caprese, BL(fg)T sandwich or salad. This is fun times for (fg)T because they won't ripen anyway. Lots of great salad greens. Add Fishwife red chimichurri smoked trout to Caesar, really good. Sorry no pics, not a fan of food photography all over the internet.

Trail mowed and nice for walking. Short grass loop. Longer loop that involves some terrain. Enjoying thinking of this month as Walktober. Special this week: Re-opening of the 0.6 mi intermediate walk/hike trail for Fall! Continually a work in progress but enjoyable terrain to explore before or after lunch, especially in this weather.

Also, wanted to take this chance to mention that our Cafe season ends after lunch on Sunday Dec 13th and we will reopen in March! We need this time for KRFS program development and our interns who come at the beginning of summer need a chance to travel and pursue other interests. We are happy to accommodate private events throughout the winter, just message us.

Thanks again for the support. Looking forward to this fun Fall stretch ahead 🙂

This Saturday night, as part of the Hellbender Festival, we will be showing a KY River documentary (1 hr) at our Old Rock Barn that Gurney Norman created of his journey along it in the late 80’s. Kid friendly and grounds open to play.

Gurney died a year ago and for those of you who may not know of Gurney, he was a renowned Appalachian writer and UK literature Professor, Kentucky Poet Laureate, close friend and colleague of Wendell Berry whose life we honor as he passed on this week, both men environmental advocates with deep love
of Kentucky, its people, and its land and water. We hope to help carry these torches.

Awesome work by Alexandrea Pangburn on this beautiful new mural featuring our (at least two) resident mockingbirds, KY coffeetree leaves and flowers, and the bee. Fun to see the process that starts w a “squiggle grid” of random numbers and letters that she then uses as coordinates for the painting. This was done with spray paint. Cheers to such a talented artist who grew up in Wi******er, now a great muralist with works around the country, choosing KY as home :)
