One of Peru’s most iconic dishes traces its name back to the War of the Pacific in the late 1800s, when potato dishes were prepared and sold to help support soldiers. The phrase “por la causa” — meaning “for the cause” — became associated with these efforts and inspired the name we know today: Causa.
