This is where we stand today! Demo is officially complete (with just a few small things left to finish), and the hardest phase is finally behind us. Now onto the next step! Cleaning.

There’s still a long road ahead. As you can see, the ceiling is completely black from the heavy soot damage. Before the fire, it was bright silver.

But every damaged wall, fixture, and piece of equipment has been torn out and removed so we can truly start with a clean slate. Right now all that’s left to be removed is our pizza oven, and the restrooms.

Initially, we were told the bar could be salvaged, which was exciting after everything we had already lost. Unfortunately, once the back wall was removed, the damage turned out to be much more extensive than anyone had anticipated. While we were disappointed to see it go, we understand that sometimes the safest and best decision is to remove everything and rebuild properly.

It continues to be a long and difficult process, but today marks another milestone. We’re one step closer to bringing Highway Pizza back. ❤️🍕

This afternoon, I went to get a few things ready for our upcoming Pit Stop event and realized our food truck had been unplugged and our power cord was gone.

After reviewing our security footage, it appears that early Wednesday morning around 4:30 AM, this individual walked behind our plaza, unplugged our food truck, and stole the heavy-duty power cord that keeps it powered. That cord allows us to keep our refrigerators running so our food stays at safe temperatures.

Unfortunately, because the truck was left without power for an extended period before we discovered it, everything in our refrigerators now has to be discarded.

Yes, we can replace the cord, but that’s not really the point.

The frustrating part is that someone chose to take something that didn’t belong to them, leaving a small business to deal with unnecessary food loss and added expenses. It’s incredibly discouraging when things like this happen.

We’re simply hoping someone recognizes this person. If you do, please send us a private message. We’d just like to identify who they are and, if possible, recover our property.

They covered part of their face, but we’re hoping someone may still recognize some of their distinguishing features.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. 🙏🏻

Just another update as we start the week.
We have some good news; we are pretty confident we will be able to save our bar. It only sustained soot damage, and the equipment there seems to be okay. It’s crazy.. we lost almost all of our TVs (they literally melted) and the bar door disintegrated. But our three beer coolers and sinks are totally fine.

Unfortunately, everything else around it still has to go. Today they removed the wall behind the bar that separated it from the kitchen. They’re continuing to tear out all dry wall and framing. It’s hard to determine where you’re standing at this point. I’ll stand somewhere thinking I’m in what used to be our dining room.. but it’s actually the dish room. Highway is unrecognizable right now…but happy to see some progress.
Hopefully we have more progress to be shared by the end of the week.

We know many of you have been asking for an update on the restaurant, and first, we just want to say thank you. Your support over these past few months have meant more to us than you’ll ever know.

We wish we had bigger news to share but this is our current reality.

The rebuilding process has been much slower than we ever imagined. It’s out of our hands unfortunately, If it were up to us, we’d be much farther ahead by now. The good news is that yesterday and today we’ve seen movement again, and progress beginning. Removal of framing, wiring, hvac, drywall, etc.
At this point, we still don’t have a reopening date. As much as we’d love to give one, we simply don’t know yet. We promise that as soon as we have meaningful updates to share, you’ll hear them from us.
Thank you all for sticking with us through this journey. Your patience, encouragement, and continued support have kept us going, and we can’t wait for the day we get to welcome everyone back!

We’ll keep you posted. ❤️🍕
