A whole lot more folks are about to find out what’s cooking in Wiggins.

Ralph’s been tucked away inside The Lightered Knot, making Southern food from scratch, one plate at a time.

Hand-grated cheddar, slow-simmered gumbo, and the kind of food that takes a little extra time because that’s how he believes it ought to be made.

Some things are still worth making the slow way.

Around here, we believe good food takes a little time. Ralph still grates the cheddar by hand, roasts the peppers, and lets the gumbo simmer until the flavors come together.

It would be easier to take a few shortcuts. But that’s not why he came home to Wiggins to cook. There’s something about sitting down to a plate of food made from scratch. You can taste the care that went into it.

I wish more people knew who’s cooking behind this door.

Tucked inside The Lightered Knot in downtown Wiggins, Ralph is doing what he came home to do. Making good Southern food from scratch, right here in the town that raised him.

Hand-grated cheddar. Pots of gumbo simmering on the stove. Real ingredients, prepared with care. No cans, no mixes, no shortcuts.

It’s easy to pass by a place when you don’t know what’s behind the door. But there’s a whole lot of heart in this little kitchen.
