The cows aren’t the only ones moving inside for the winter. Our family, friends, employees, and customers all participate in housing animals over the winter. Midge, Kitty and Maple went home yesterday! We will miss having them at the farm, but having them spoiled until spring is even better!

Our Kiss-a-Calf event November 29 10:30-1:00 is ANOTHER chance to see animals dressed up… this time, you can HUG them, pet them and love on them. Here’s a photo from 2024 of Siobhan (who is now expecting her own calf in December)

Some cows got shifted today to give space in the milking barn for those due to calve. These two ladies were happy to give up stall life for pen life. Each is enjoying an extended dry period or “vacation”, expecting a calf right before the new year. In case you think you’re seeing double, this is one of our mother and daughter duos. Carlita is the matriarch and features more red coloring. Cinnamon is Carlitas first daughter. Both of these girls are our Milking Shorthorns.

As we prepare for the cows to stay inside over the winter, all of our stalls are scraped and limed to reduce excess moisture and reduce bacteria growth. When our animals are rotated the stalls and pens are thoroughly cleaned between groups of moving animals. With their being no growth on the fields, having the cows outside on the fields can hinder further growth for the next growing season. With the way the past two summers have been, we need every ounce of growth we can get. Stop in to the barn to see the ladies in their winter home.

Leftover pumpkins? We will take them! Drop off anytime! We will have a cart available outside the Ice Cream Barn labeled animal food domains. Please no painted or sprayed pumpkins.
