Good Morning to everyone out there on Facebook today. Today will officially be the last day that the Country Barn Cafe will be at the current location.
It is with great sadness that we have had to close our doors. During our time open we have succeeded in keeping our doors open through some very tough times. We survived throughout the COVID period but lost a few Great People that we still to this date think of. Those people will forever be in our hearts and Minds. Post Covid brought the industry an unprecedented employment crisis and economic downturn in US History but we seemed to successfully maintain our business due to the enormous love, loyalty and support through our customers we call our family. I will forever think of all of you and will miss each one of you. Then came the issue we have struggled with the entire time we have been open and that is the horrible smell that would come from out of nowhere. It was always explained to me that it was due to an issue with the City Sewer pipe under Wickham Rd that was awaiting a repair from the city. After a few years, a lot of complaints to the City the repair finally happened and the smell would still come to visit. This past year the smell consistently increased in time and strength until this summer it became prevalent the entire business day. Starting the beginning of summer we had customers who would literally open the door and turn around and leave or sit down and hold something over their nostrils as they could not stand the smell I was constantly complaining and bringing my concerns to the owners. After many complaints and my plea to the owner to investigate the cause of this foul odor. It was revealed that when the unit was built there was an open 4” pipe that was wide open and never capped located directly underneath a return for the HVAC system which was consistently pulling return air from the open 4” sewer line. It was then capped off and the smell has been the least it has ever been but will still occasionally come and visit. I advised the owner of the building and their response was a letter that stated they would not be chasing a smell and that I would be responsible to find and fix the problem. Even though we have survived some of the toughest times in the industry I am not an owner with endless pockets and is is because of this issue I had to make a decision to permanently close. I will be at the restaurant today disposing of everything within the building and if you liked any of the decor within the building I will be having a sale between 9-6 today. I would Love to see you all!
