In the face of mounting financial difficulties, the governing board of St. Mark’s Medical Center voted unanimously Thursday to pursue becoming a Rural Emergency Hospital to allow the hospital to remain open and continue to provide select medical services to the community. Effective Saturday Feb. 18, St. Mark’s will only offer 24/7 emergency medical services, patient observation and select outpatient services.
This change, while allowing the hospital to stay open, will have a significant impact in terms of staff reduction and services offered. This is a developing story, with lots more to come …
