Wow 😍

Thank you to Tobin for gifting us these beautiful puppets from Thailand! Many fond memories came flooding back. Before movie theatres hit our home land, these were our first taste of theatrical entertainment! In the form of oral storytelling and puppetry. Yes, we really did sit on the dirt ground in front of white sheets and campfires to watch these puppets come to life. Living in the refugee camps were tough times, but there were delightful times too. Puppet shows were one of them.

If you're in Yreka, stop by Pho Palace!

We had crab rangoons, the Lao sausage with sticky rice, Pad Ka Proa (Chicken), and a creamy mocktail! It's a condensed milk drink mixed with sprite and hydrating fruit pieces.

No competition here. Just neighbourly love. We all came from very similar beginnings. β™‘ Small, POC-owned businesses supporting other small POC-owned businesses!

Also, look how ADORABLE their to-go cups are! 😍 How stinking cute!

We at LTC would like to apologize for the frequent closures. Everyone who knows us, this is NOT a usual occurance. Lao & Thai funerals take so much preparation as it is, and then there are post-funeral rituals we must do after one's passing. This is primarily why we have been closing more than what is considered our typical norm.

We thank our patrons for being patient and understanding and being cooperative as we navigate through our loss and try to find balance again. Further more, we thank our patrons for respecting our culture and beliefs.

LTC will be closed today so that we may finish up the last step of our post-death rituals. We unfortunately were not able to get everything completed yesterday like we wanted to, so that we may be open today. We understand how frustrating this is. Once more, we deeply apologize for these inconvenient closures lately.

We hope to be able to serve everyone when we re-open on Monday, June 8th.

Love,
- The LTC Fam Bam

Beautiful hand-made resin rose jar, poured and crafted gift by our friend from Missouri, LeeLee's Crystal Creations πŸŒΉπŸ’• Take a look at their creations! From crystal beads & resin art. 😍 Though not local, they are a fellow small woman-owned business and this boss lady is all about supporting small women-owned businesses! We're all here to uplift each other and root on for one another, especially given how rough this economy has gotten. Please take a gander at our friend's works!

Happy June 1st, everyone! Yesterday, May 31st, we said our final goodbyes to our beloved matriarch. It was a beautiful and peaceful Lao funeral service, and she was surrounded by so many - more than what the building could fit - people who loved and cherished her deeply. These past couple weeks have been uneasy, especially with trying to balance the restaurant and the Lao funeral preparations. We thank our patrons so much for the support through this rough and painful time.

With that said-- we're happy to announce that Lily's Thai Cafe will be **OPEN TODAY at 3PM**. Please come and let's honour Grandma K's memory with hearty meals and refreshing drinks! MA GIN DER P*E NONG!!! She would've absolutely loved to make sure everyone got their fill, and that no one went home hungry. β™‘

Kong Sengxay was wife to Thongsay Sengxay. She is survived by her five children: Noukay, Phoxay (Pho/Paul, head chef), Lamyai, Baysy, and Phyla (Peter); her seventeen grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Grandma K came to the United States from Laos while pregnant with her youngest child, Peter, escaping the Secret War in hopes of building a better life for her family.

Adjusting to a new country was not easy, especially without being able to speak or read the language. Yet through every hardship, she gave her children all the love she had and provided for them the best way she knew how.

Grandma K lived a long and beautiful life. She was deeply loved by many and was a cherished pillar of the Lao community. She touched countless lives with her kindness, generosity, and unwavering support. She gave so much of herself to those around her and never expected anything in return. Her love, strength, and selflessness will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Rest in paradise, our pride and queen. February 10 1934 - May 15 2026. We just know she's having dinner upstairs with Grandpa right now. β™‘

Heavy Announcement:

Lily's Thai Cafe, starting tomorrow May 28th, will be closed for the remainder of the week (May 29th, May 30th) so that we can focus on the final stages of funeral preparation for our beloved matriarch.

These past weeks have not been easy. Despite our loss, we've been doing our best to serve this community.

We want to extend our thanks to our patrons for being so patient, understanding, and supportive, especially when we've been closing more than normal due to these hard circumstances. It really means so much to our family. We will be saying our last goodbyes to Grandma K on May 31st. Afterwards, we admit we aren't sure if we want to open immediately after the 31st, but we will keep everyone updated.

With gratefulness & gratitude,
- The LTC Family

Here is a photo from 2020 (before the pandemic hit us really bad) celebrating Grandma K's 81st birthday.

Happy Memorial Day!

"What is the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day?": Memorial Day is a solemn day of remembrance for the brave individuals who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, while Veterans Day celebrates ALL American veterans for their service.

Needless to say, Lily's Thai Cafe will be closed. We'll see everyone back tomorrow, Tuesday! Enjoy the day with your loved ones. Share stories, and treasure every second.
