The City of Webster Groves would like to recognize local restaurateurs Stanley Browne and Arlene Maminta Browne.

Councilmember Pam Bliss presented a proclamation at the March 3 meeting, in appreciation of their impact and community involvement.

Stanley and Arlene opened their first Robust location in 2007, and it quickly became an anchor in the Old Webster Business District.

Robust was named the St. Louis Magazine's Restaurant of the Year in 2008, and Sauce Magazine's Readers’ Choice Favorite Wine Bar in 2010, 2011, and 2013.

Stanley and Arlene are also co-owners of Madrina with The Parkmoor Drive-In's Frank Romano and Laura Burns.

The couple has been a huge part of the Webster Groves community and a supporter of the entire St. Louis region through countless charitable efforts.

The Future of Robust is in limbo. CLARIFICATION: We are still under negotiations to sell Robust. Our family’s ownership chapter will end at the end of January.

As we reflect on nearly 20 years of Robust Bistro & Wine Bar, we’re doing so with deep gratitude — and honesty.

We have been small business owners long enough to know that every season brings its own challenges. But this moment, shaped by economic uncertainty and shifting realities, has been one of the most difficult chapters we’ve faced. We know we are not alone in that.

Robust has always been about more than food and wine. It has been about relationships, community, and showing up for one another — whether in moments of celebration or during harder climbs. It’s where our family grew, where our children learned resilience, and where countless shared moments unfolded around the table.

Thank you to our guests, partners, and especially our extraordinary team — past and present — for the care and heart you’ve poured into this place. We are still proud to be St. Louis Magazine’s Restaurant of The Year in 2008, St. Louis’ Best Wine Bar countless times by Sauce Magazine over the years, and all of the cherished accolades you have bestowed upon us over the years.

As our family prepares to close this chapter at the end of January, we would love the opportunity to welcome you in once more, thank you personally, and celebrate what we’ve built together.
