Wild game time

If you’re truly doing something for a service or out of the kindness of your heart you don’t feel the need to defend it right!??? Unless you feel kinda guilty 🤷‍♀️ but deep pockets is all that matters around these parts 😂

Funny little story from yesterday! 😂

So, I was stranded at a gas station with a flat tire, and thankfully, a kind stranger stopped to help me. While he was helping, he spotted Don Cummings and tried calling him over to lend a hand. This was at the Cherokee Post near Geary.

Well, wouldn’t you know it? Don turned his nose up and kept on walking. 🤣

I told the gentleman helping me, “Funny thing is, he’s from my town. We have our differences, and in my opinion, he’s a bigot, so I’m not surprised he wouldn’t help.”

The gentleman responded, “Yeah, I know racist pricks all too well.”

And that, ladies and gentlemen, was yesterday’s unexpected conversation! 😂

But shoutout to the kind stranger who actually took the time to help someone in need! ❤️ I got my tire patched, but unfortunately, I didn’t make it back in time for the special council meeting.

On the bright side, I’m glad someone took the initiative to provide meeting minutes for the community, even though that isn’t their responsibility!

Funny how sometimes the people with no obligation to help are the ones who show up, while the people we expect community involvement from leave us questioning what public service really means. 🤷‍♀️

Anyway, flat tire fixed, faith in kind strangers outside of Waynoka restored, and another council meeting missed. Never a dull moment! 😂

We need to start putting people in our local government who genuinely care about this community and are willing to be active pillars of it!

My question is, how many of our current council members do we actually see volunteering, attending community events, supporting local businesses, or getting involved outside of council meetings? How many residents can even name the people representing them?

That’s something worth talking about!

Our community deserves representation that is visible, approachable, transparent, and connected to the everyday struggles of the people who live here.

We need people who understand what it’s like to raise families here, run businesses here, pay these utility bills, and deal with the same issues the rest of us face.

If a city council seat becomes available or comes up for election, consider running! You don’t have to be wealthy, popular, or part of a certain social circle to care about your community and want to serve it.

And let’s start holding ALL of our elected officials accountable, not just during elections, but throughout their time in office.

Public service should be about serving the PUBLIC, not just holding a title!

It’s time we start learning who represents us, asking questions, showing up, and getting more involved in the future of Waynoka! ❤️
