Meet María Velasquez Cruz, a member of the CODECH cooperative in northern Guatemala. She farms just under two acres of land which she calls “El Rinconcito” or her special “little corner” of the world. María has been producing coffee since 2020, utilizing the agronomy technical assistance from the cooperative to help her learn to produce this great coffee named after her.
What is CODECH? CODECH is a cooperative in the northern region of Huehuetenango department, near the Chiapas, Mexico border. This region is known for the highest elevations in Central America of 1800-2000 meters above sea level.
This medium roast is a washed process coffee that when brewed has notes of jammy blackberry, marzipan, croissant, and layers of complex sweetness and acidity.
Our coffee director Brooke Schlosser has a long-term relationship with CODECH. During her time as an importer she helped to develop a micro lot cupping competition which is still held annually to promote financial benefit to coffee growers like María Velasquez Cruz.
