It`s Saturday and it is going to be a BEAUTIFUL sunshine filled day!!! It is also going to be a sunshine filled day that includes LUNCH at Sweet Mamas. My ride or die is out today and that means we are doing lunch for y`all; breakfast will be back on track NEXT Saturday. If you work out of town or live out of town and work M-F then today is your day folks. Sweet Mama burgers, Wedge Salads, The Angry Bird - a new fan favorite - and of course, Sweet Mamas fries are what we are serving up for y`all as well as our full lunch menu. We are getting down with the get down for real today!!

The Plate lunch will be Dixie`s Pulled Pork BBQ, sauced and sassy!! The sides will be black-eyed peas, Fresh Mustard greens, Sriracha Slaw, Country-Style green beans, Southern -style skillet squash with bacon and onions, Candied Yams, and Butterbeans. For TODAY ONLY, since we are doing BBQ, we decided to do butter grilled Texas Toast instead of Cornbread.

The Special will be Baja Tuna Salad Tostadas - This is NOT your mama's tuna salad; this is a FOODIE Tuna salad, nothing about it is average or ordinary. We DO NOT use canned or pouches of Tuna for this. It begins with Olive Oil and White Wine Poached Yellowfin Tuna and it ends with delicious. Of course, we add Duke`s Mayo but then we add celery, chopped pickled jalapenos; made in house, minced red onions, cucumbers, boiled eggs and FRESH Lime juice. Served on crispy Tostadas and dressed with lettuce, tomato, fresh avocado and our house-made Chamoy Sauce with a Tajin dusting! Trust me, you want it!

Rise and Shine y`all!! It is FRIDAY and it is going to be a beautiful day on Main Street in downtown Water Valley Mississippi!! The early morning are my favorite time of the day; this is something I talk about a lot, the gentleness and the peace that exist in a world filled with chaos. It soothes my soul and it also reminds me to not take each day for granted, to be thankful for the many blessings in my life, and to remember where I have been, how I got here and where I want to go. I was such a HOT mess when I was younger; the struggle was in fact real and there were so many times I almost gave up and settled for what was in front of me or just didn't care. Drugs, alcohol and a whole lot of mistakes, pretty much everyone but me gave up on me, but I survived and I learned and I changed and I pushed and I worked, HARD. Here I am, almost forty years later and I am doing it, I have a beautiful life, the life I always wanted and never thought I would have. I made it, by the grace of God, I made it. I didn't know that the struggles, the challenges and the mistakes were empowering me, but I know now and I am so grateful. All of these things led me to having my own restaurant, Sweet Mamas, I still work hard, every single day and I am proud of that, and I am proud of me. Keep pushing y`all, don`t stop, don't quit, don`t give up and believe in your dreams. Now then, let`s eat!!

The Plate lunch for Friday is Dixie Dale`s Red Beans and Rice - Y`all these are the real deal: we use only Camellia Beans - anything else is blasphemy, in our humble opinion of course:-) We build on the Holy Trinity of Louisiana Vegetables, slow simmered until tender and creamy, heavily seasoned but not overly spicy. Loaded with Smoked Sausage and Hammy bits of goodness. Served with a generous portion of buttered rice AND today we are kicking these Red Beans ALL the way up by topping it with Sweet Mamas Fried Catfish fillets, Pride of the Pond of course. Red beans and Rice and Fried Catfish, a happy marriage, yes lawd! The side will be, Sweet Mamas Candied Yams, Sriracha Cole Slaw, FRESH Mustard greens, Country-Style Green Beans, Butter Beans, Black-eyed peas, and Southern-Style fried skillet Squash with bacon and onions. Vallians!! Good morning and Happy Thursday to all of you!! Y`all, I said to a friend last week that this had been a ROUGH summer in the kitchen; it has been so hot, we are pushing through but tired. I told my friend that I was praying for an early Fall Day to cool it off a little and give us hope that help was on the way. Well y`all, we got just that on Monday; it was SO NICE Monday morning, and it did in fact recharge our batteries and give us hope. Signs of an early Fall are all around: the acorns are dropping, the leaves are showing the slightest bit of color change and also beginning to fall. It will be here before you know it and we will open the front door as wide as it will go and say, Welcome Old friend, we have missed you.

The Plate Lunch for Thursday will be Miss Vetra`s Sunday Chicken and dressing with FRESH cranberry sauce and Chicken table gravy. Side choices are Southern-Fried Cabbage, Fresh Mustard Greens, Black-Eyed Peas, Butter Beans, Country Green Beans, and Candied Yams. Good morning, Water Valley!! It has been a long while since we have lost someone who made all of us have a collective sigh, followed by heavy hearts, sadness and some tears. Especially a person who we really didn't know, but that's the thing y`all, we all felt like we knew Dolly Parton, like she was one of us. For me personally, I can't remember a time when I didn't love Dolly. I spent a lot of Saturday evenings watching Hee Haw with my granddaddy and Dolly was always on, singing with Porter Wagner and those two together was something to see, especially as a little southern girl. A woman who came from nothing and gave everything of herself to the world with not only her voice and her songs but with her realness, her kindness, and her strength. It seems appropriate that rain is in the forecast today, tears from heaven as we mourn the loss of an icon. We sure did love you Dolly and to say you will be missed is an understatement. Thank you for sharing your voice and beauty with the world.

The special for today will be The Small-Town City Girl - Thin sliced Black Forrest ham, griddle steamed HOT and dripping in melty and gooey Swiss cheese on butter toasted Marble Rye bread. Dressed out and Dixiefied with creamy Russian dressing, bread and butter pickle chips, Deli Slaw, Crisp Iceberg, Late Summer tomatoes, thin sliced red onion and a drizzle of good ole yellow mustard. Served with Dirty Chips.

The Plate lunch will be Church Lady Chicken Amandine Casserole - Chicken breast, toasted almonds, slivered green beans, mushrooms, sweet corn and rice in a creamy and cheesy Bechamel sauce. So old-school and SO delicious. Shout-out to all the Methodist church ladies who made this for Potluck Sunday during my youth. The sides will be Southern-Style Pinto beans, FRESH Mustard Greens, Country Boy Cabbage with bacon and Onions, Butter Beans, Dixie`s Sriracha Slaw, and Sweet Mamas Green Beans. All of our plate lunches are served with our Buttermilk Southern Cornbread Muffin and house-whipped Honey butter.

The dessert will be Sweet Mamas Triple Layer Oreo Cookie Cake - From Scratch, Triple-Layer Vanilla Cake loaded with crushed Oreo Cookies. Frosted with Chocolate Buttercream. Moist and decadent. Finished with a cloud of Mocha Chantilly Cream, a drizzle of our from scratch Chocolate sauce, crushed Oreos and a light dusting of sugar.

Wakey Wakey!! It`s Saturday and it is going to be a FINE day at Sweet Mamas Water Valley!! Our kitchen is up before the rooster start to crow so we can do the hard work of making some good, old-fashioned, generational Southern woman cooking!! We bring a STRONG breakfast and brunch game to the table on Saturdays, doing things the way our mothers and grandmothers taught us as children. Now, don't get me wrong, we throw some new school funkiness into the mix, but at the core of each and everything we cook is a strong Southern woman, keeping the traditions, the flavors, and the memories alive. Happy Friday Vallians!! This has been a HOT week, I mean HOT y`all!! Talk about things that having you question your life choices, those 110 degree days in the kitchen will dang sure do it, lol. I really really hope this is the last of the extreme heat for the summer. We can do 90`s, we can do high 90`s but anything at 100 or above just ain`t right. Counting the days until Football and Fall, Hotty Toddy!!

The Plate is Dixie`s Pasta Jambalaya - A Louisiana Classic; Dixiefied! Loaded with a mix of Creo-Cajun flavors and seasonings, the Holy Trinity of vegetables, Andouille Sausage, blackened chicken breast, Hammy Bits and USA Wild-Caught Shrimp; tossed in a Worcestershire Tabasco Cream. Good morning, Water Valley and what a beautiful morning it is on Main Street. Y`all know how much I love watching the sunrise through my front windows every morning and let me tell you that this morning did not disappoint! We had a beautiful buttermilk sky filled with waves of blue and white and as the sun rose, the pinks and reds started to shine through and usher us gently into the morning. There is no better way to wake up and come alive to begin your day that to gaze out onto the peace and beauty of the world. Let the light shine down on you and go out into the world and spread that light with everyone you meet.

The Special will be The Mississippi Mariner - Dixie`s Southern Fried Catfish Fillet, made with Mississippi`s Pride of the Pond Catfish. Hand-breaded and Golden-Fried Crispy with our Sassy, Southern Fish Fry. Served in a Crusty French Roll slathered with Sweet Mamas Charred Lemon Dill Tartar Sauce and Dressed with Shredded Berg, Late Summer Tomatoes, Dill Pickle Chips and a splash of Tabasco. Served with Dirty Chips.

The Plate Lunch will be T Pulled Pork Pot Roast - We make it the same way we make our beef roast. Cooked until falling apart tender in a rich and savory Pork Jus with Onions, Potatoes and Carrots. Vallians!! Good morning and happy Wednesday friends!! Lawd have mercy y`all, temperature is forecast for 100 degrees today and that means a heat index of close to 110 or more. At this stage in the game, we are all just praying for some "Normal" summer temperatures; everything is SO much harder with extreme heat and it's downright dangerous for all living things. As we make a final push with this summer heat, keep an eye on any folks working outside, elderly folks who may not have an adequate source of Air conditioning, and just folks in general. Heat stroke happens so quickly--everyone stay hydrated, stay inside if you can help it, especially during the hottest part of the day. Our AC is bumping in Sweet Mamas, and we have plenty of beverages to help the cool-down. We also keep a bowl of fresh water outside for all of the four-legged fur babies; be careful walking those dogs at the heat of the day folks, heat stroke can hit our pets just like it hits us. Stay cool y`all.

The Wednesday Plate lunch - We have a special treat for y`all, this week our plate lunches and Vegetable plates with be served with some good ole Mississippi CRACKLIN BREAD!! Nashville HOT Honey Fried Chicken Tenders (available, not-dipped as well) served with a choice of one of Sweet Mamas Signature and scratch-made dipping sauces. The Sides will be Country Fried Skillet Cabbage, Pinto Beans, Fresh Mustard Greens, Black-Eyed Peas, Southern-Style Green Beans, and Sweet Mamas Candied Yams. Happy Saturday y`all!! Rise and shine, it`s gonna be a HOT one today; it`s time to get moving and grooving out in the world and get it done!! I have heard my entire life that Breakfast is the most important meal of the day; you need nourishment and fuel to get the body and mind moving. We are here to do our part, so you don't have to. The only thing required of all of you is to rise and shine and get on down to Sweet Mamas with an empty stomach and a full heart: we will do all the rest!! We invite you to come and sit at our table, eat a plate, meet a local, share a laugh, and shake a hand. Our doors open at 7:30 am and we are ready to rumble.

The special will be Thai Basil Chicken Breakfast Tacos -Sweet Mamas famous breakfast tacos, Thai-style. TWO flour tortillas, griddle-warmed and loaded with Grilled Thai Basil Chicken, Soft-scrambled eggs, fresh herbs, griddled sweet onions, Coconut Lime crema, Pineapple Salsa, and Sweet Mamas Candied Jalapenos. Good morning, friends and neighbors and what a beautiful day it is on Main Street Water Valley. The heat is crunk up again but we still gotta eat and eat good and I am HERE for the cooking and eating folks!! I tell y`all what, I have NEVER been happier to live in Water Valley than I do at this moment. I grew up in Oxford, but it was a different Oxford than what we have today. The final push for move in at the University is this weekend and the town is already COVERED UP; the students are back and they brought the whole Hee Haw gang with them. If you need ANYTHING from Oxford, I HIGHLY recommend getting up as early as you can and get in and out as quickly as possible. I was in town on Wednesday and good gosh almighty, it was complete insanity. Thoughts and prayers and go with God.

The Plate lunch will be Miss Vetra`s Sunday Chicken and Dressing with Chicken Table Gravy and FRESH Cranberry Sauce. It AIN`T never too hot for Chicken and dressing in The House of Sweet Mama; we make this dish YEAR-ROUND and ain`t nobody mad about it. Good food knows no season friends!! The Side choices are Southern-Style Green Beans, Country Fried Cabbage, Butter Beans, Candied Yams, Black-Eyed Peas, and FRESH Collard Greens. Served with a heavy-handed dollop of Vanilla Bourbon Chantilly Whip.
