Desserts from Pastry Chef Joy always have a great origin story. Here’s what she says about the Hurricane Cheesecake:

I’ve always used cocktails as a building block to making desserts. I chose to highlight the Hurricane, a cocktail that’s a New Orleans staple.

The tropical fruits of the fassionola syrup just screams “summer is here!” The orange cheesecake gives it the acidic pop and it’s rounded out with a very rummy caramel.

Sliced in a long rectangular bar to remind you of a beach towel. Then dressed with a cocktail umbrella that ties it all in. IYKYK.

We couldn’t make it to Tales of the Cocktail, the largest cocktail meetup that happens in New Orleans every year, so we decided to honor it here in DC this week. We have two feature cocktails on the menu until Friday, July 24th.

The first comes from the one-and-only Neal Bodenheimer, partner at Dauphine’s and owner of Cure in New Orleans. The Crutch Cocktail is made with Brandy St.Louise, Dubonnet, Elderflower & Citrus and is a lovely summertime drink to keep you refreshed and feeling cool.

The second drink is from our beverage manager, Chris Denino. Old Misbelief includes Probitas rum, Maraschino, Umeboshi, Citrus & Sparkling Wine. This Daiquiri variation honors the influence of Japanese plums on New Orleans cuisine with notes of tropical fruit and pleasant salinity. A bright, delicious beverage with fun effervescence for an afternoon pick-me-up.
